Press Release

Global Center to Host Cleveland Healthcare Summit on September 29

Global Center for Health Innovation
Posted on: 13 Sep 16

As part of its year-long educational programming series, the Global Center for Health Innovation will host the Cleveland Healthcare Summit: Healthcare in the Digital Era on Thursday, September 29 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Global Center. Presented by Brocade and the Global Center, the healthcare summit will focus on one of the most topical issues in America today, the transformation of healthcare in the digital era. The event is free. For registration and additional information, please visit the event web site. (http://www.informationsuperhighway2.com/).

Panel discussions will focus on the industry, policy and technology and showcase some of the most notable voices in U.S. healthcare, including speakers from Cleveland Clinic, the University of California at San Francisco, Verizon, HIMSS and the Global Center. There will also be an on-stage discussion with Kelly Cronin, Director of the Office of Care Transformation in the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC), a flagship initiative of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

Ms. Cronin will discuss her efforts to help establish and evolve America’s health information technology agenda and will delve ONC programs and policies with HHS related health reform implementation, and her pioneering efforts in support of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).

The Cleveland Healthcare Summit will feature two panel discussions, The Connected Patient: Implications of Care in the Palm of Your Hand and Managing Healthcare in a Hacker-Driven World.

According to a recent report by PricewaterhouseCoopers, 32 percent of consumers have at least one health, medical or fitness app on their mobile device. As smartphones, connected medical devices, and health apps continue to gain favor, a host of IT issues are also arising around patient information, e-visits, wearable electronics and other offshoots of healthcare transformation. The opening panel will explore the promise -- as well as the peril and policy implications -- of health care transformation. The panelists include Dr. Frank Papay, Cleveland Clinic; Dr. Rupa Dainer, Pediatric Specialists of Virginia; Peter Tippett, HealthCelerate; and, John Paganini, HIMSS.

The flip side of connectivity is that patients are more vulnerable than ever to cyber breaches. So are doctors, hospitals and entire health care systems, which are increasingly under attack. In the second panel discussion, industry experts Philip O'Reilly, Brocade; Nancy Green, Verizon; Dr. Parsa Mirhaji, Montefiore Medical Center; and, Dr. Russ Cucina, University of California, San Francisco will explore the pain and promise of “care anywhere” now that health systems are connected digitally, at the IP network layer and via wireless. Haley Sweetland Edwards of TIME magazine will serve as moderator for both panel discussions.

For free registration and additional information, please visit the event web site.
