WASHINGTON, Sept. 14, 2016

WASHINGTON, Sept. 14, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- As America observes National Recovery Month in September, the Addiction Policy Forum, together with Faces and Voices of Recovery, today launched Everyday Recovery, a campaign to raise awareness of addiction treatment options and share the powerful stories of people achieving long-term, sustained recovery.

Twenty-three million people in the United States are in recovery from addiction to alcohol and other drugs. By celebrating their stories, Everyday Recovery seeks to decrease stigma surrounding addiction and encourage people struggling with this disease to seek the recovery support in their communities. Each day in September, Everyday Recovery will feature a story of a person in recovery, as well as innovative recovery supports — such as Anchor Recovery Community Centers in Rhode Island— developed by local communities.

"There is not a home in the United States that is unaffected by addiction, and long-term recovery is the ultimate goal. By celebrating the benefits of recovery, and the real people who are achieving it, we can decrease the stigma surrounding this disease," said Jessica Nickel, executive director of the Addiction Policy Forum. "Everyday Recovery recognizes the millions of Americans who continue to find recovery and share stories of hope."

"For many of us, every day of recovery brings new joys and opportunities," said Patty McCarthy Metcalf, executive director of Faces & Voices of Recovery. "This campaign carries the message of hope in a very public way — one that will eliminate negative attitudes toward addiction and recovery."
