Step Out Walk and Run to Stop Diabetes Starts at Philadelphia Museum of Art on November 5

PHILADELPHIA, Sept. 19, 2016

PHILADELPHIA, Sept. 19, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The American Diabetes Association is inviting walkers and runners of all ages to join their 25th anniversary celebration and take part in the Philadelphia Step Out Walk to Stop Diabetes  presented by Merck at the Philadelphia Museum of Art on November 5. This year the annual event will include a 5K run that will begin before the walk. Participants are asked to help raise funds to change the future of diabetes and help stop this devastating disease.   

The walk will start at the steps of the museum and participants will walk or run the 5K route along the Schuylkill River. The family-friendly event will also include music, kids' activities, local entertainment, and the support and company of people who truly understand the impact of diabetes and are committed to finding a cure. Those people living with diabetes who choose to participate in the event can walk as "Red Striders" or run as "Red Runners."

Interested walkers or runners can register at www.diabetes.org/stepoutphilly. There is a $25 registration fee to participate in the 5K. Once you register you will receive your very own "Step Out Center" fundraising page to help you reach your fundraising goal. So far the event has over 100 teams, consisting of friends, family and co-workers, and has raised more than $215,000 of their $600,000 fundraising goal.

The Philadelphia Step Out Walk is sponsored locally by Merck, Mid Atlantic Retina, Walgreens, Nutrisystem, , Independence Blue Cross,  Philadelphia Media Network, City Fitness, Tandign Health, the Laborer's District Council, the Philadelphia Business Journal, NBC 10 and Novo Nordisk — the National Premier and Red Strider sponsor.
