BAY SHORE, N.Y., Sept. 28, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Genoa, a QoL Healthcare Company (Genoa), announced its first pharmacy in the state of New York with an event today at Family Service League, a social service agency based on Long Island. When the pharmacy officially opens for business, Genoa will operate 330 full-service pharmacies nationwide that are located within community mental health centers and social service agencies, providing customized services to people suffering from behavioral disorders in the same facility as they receive their care.

"This is a momentous occasion not only for Genoa, but also for behavioral health organizations in the state of New York," said Mark Peterson, Genoa's chief commercial officer. "We are excited that the state board of pharmacy has granted us the opportunity to operate a truly integrated pharmacy within a clinic, so we can bring our proven model of care to the state of New York, where millions of individuals live with a mental illness."

"Family Service League is delighted to partner with Genoa and honored to have been chosen as the first human service organization in New York State to have a Genoa pharmacy on-site," stated Karen Boorshtein, LCSW, President & CEO of Family Service League. "The pharmacy will benefit our clients by making it easier for them to obtain their medications, improving their medication adherence and leading to improved overall health."

Genoa is the nation's most experienced pharmacy provider specializing in serving the behavioral health community. A recent study published in the Journal of Managed Care & Specialty Pharmacy provides evidence that Genoa's unique on-site pharmacy model improves patient outcomes and reduces costs by customizing services to meet the needs of the behavioral health population receiving care within the center.

Consumers will benefit from the personal interactions with the Genoa pharmacist as well as the doctors that practice in the facility. This on-site partnership will allow doctors the ability to confirm that their patients are receiving their prescribed medications, as well as receive communication from Genoa if any issues or concerns arise.

Although Genoa is a nationwide company, its pharmacies offer the personalized services and atmosphere of a neighborhood pharmacy. Being on-site allows Genoa pharmacists and technicians to work closely with prescribers, nurses, and caseworkers, providing the best possible care for each individual consumer. While Genoa specializes in behavioral health, its pharmacies have the capacity to fill all medications. Genoa pharmacies are also able to bill Medicaid, Medicare and private insurers. In addition, Genoa offers several packaging options that can be tailored to fit the needs of the consumers, including specially designed adherence packaging.
