BETHESDA, Md., Sept. 28, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The ACMG Foundation for Genetic and Genomic Medicine is pleased to announce that nominees are now being accepted for the David L. Rimoin Lifetime Achievement Award in Medical Genetics in recognition of the life and career of the late Dr. David L. Rimoin. As the founding President of the American College of Medical Genetics and Genomics (ACMG) and past President of the ACMG Foundation for Genetic and Genomic Medicine, Dr. Rimoin set our organization on the path to becoming the leader it is today.

The David L. Rimoin Lifetime Achievement Award in Medical Genetics is the ACMG Foundation's most distinguished award. This distinction, which now includes a monetary award of 10,000 dollars and a framed certificate to be given at the ACMG Annual Clinical Genetics meeting in 2017, will be presented to an individual in the medical genetic profession who exemplifies a lifetime of achievements and personal qualities embodied by Dr. Rimoin including his passion for teaching and mentoring, his care of patients and their families, and his enthusiasm for integrating the medical genetics and genomics community into mainstream healthcare.

Individuals do not need to be an ACMG member to make a nomination.
