LAKE SUCCESS, N.Y., Oct. 11, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- IPRO is a winner of a Challenge prize that will support development of a prototype mobile application to help physicians report essential payment information to the U.S. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).
Under Medicare's new Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS), an estimated 1.2 million physicians will be required to submit detailed performance data in order to receive annual Medicare payment updates. Physicians participating in advanced Alternative Payment Methodology (APM) arrangements will be exempted from MIPS but will be required to meet other stringent reporting requirements.
CMS issued the MIPS Mobile Challenge to find innovative ways to help physicians, support staff, health organizations, data vendors and others access real-time information necessary to successfully report on an array of performance measures. IPRO is one of five Phase 1 Mobile Challenge winners. Phase 1 winners are eligible to compete for a Phase 11 Grand Prize, after which CMS will choose features from the Challenge prototypes to integrate into education and outreach activities.
"We're very pleased to be recognized by CMS in the first phase of the Challenge," according to IPRO's Chief Technology Officer Jaz-Michael King. "Our goal is to design and test a support functionality that is simple, intuitive and easy-to-use. We want to build a platform that will reduce the reporting burden and increase satisfaction for MIPS clinicians and their field staff."
The MIPS Mobile Challenge isn't IPRO's first foray into mobile application (app) development. Last spring an IPRO-led coalition developed and released the as "MAPPP" (Management of Anticoagulation in the Peri-Procedural Period) mobile app and online tool.
The MAPPP app enables clinicians to easily determine whether, when, and how to stop and restart the use of warfarin and oral anticoagulants during elective surgery and other invasive procedures. The tool is available on the Apple App Store and the Android Market.
A nationally recognized not-for-profit currently operating in 33 states and territories, IPRO offers a wide range of services including quality improvement and assessment activities; utilization review; independent review of patient appeals; data collection, analysis and validation; anti-fraud and abuse analytics and online performance reporting for government agencies, managed care organizations and private sector clients. In addition, IPRO operates the WhyNotTheBest website, a comprehensive quality improvement resource that analyzes the performance of 5,686 acute care hospitals in the U.S.
