Blink Health, the company that leverages technology to promote fairness and transparency for consumers in the prescription drug market, today announced it has hired former Etsy CTO Kellan Elliott-McCrea to lead its engineering team. Elliott-McCrea will serve as Senior Vice President, Head of Engineering, overseeing the quickly growing team of engineers at the New York-based startup.

“At Blink we are focused on building the leading engineering organization in New York dedicated to solving one of the most serious challenges that impacts every American: Access to affordable, transparent health care,” said Blink Health CEO and co-founder Geoff Chaiken. “We can’t think of a better person to lead our engineering team than Kellan, who has a track record of building world-class engineering organizations in the context of a mission-driven organization, to leverage a sense of purpose that can truly drive innovation.”

“The technology we are developing at Blink Health is the direct result of a team driven by our shared values,” said Blink Health co-founder Matthew Chaiken. “Building a health system that is more transparent and equitable is something all Americans deserve and something our country desperately needs. With Kellan’s leadership, our engineering team will build and sustain that model, with the result being new products that improve the lives of millions of Americans.”

“Shared purpose is the hardest part of building new software. Having a compelling mission we all believe in makes this hard work a bit easier,” said Kellan Elliott-McCrea. “From my very first conversation with Blink, it was clear that making access to health care—starting with affordable prescription drugs—more transparent and equitable is the force that drives engineering and innovation at the company. I’m thrilled to be joining this great team, and my job will be to help them grow into the best possible engineering organization. “

While CTO at Etsy, Elliott-McCrea helped pioneer an innovative culture of continuous learning that supported the world-class engineering and mission-driven work for which Etsy is famous. He became known for his efforts in building an inclusive engineering organization with Etsy being a frequently cited example of how the tech industry could improve diversity. He is considered an expert at creating positive learning environments where engineering teams can collaborate and build technology that is highly effective for the communities it serves.

Before joining Etsy, Kellan worked as part of the early Flickr team as Architect where he helped guide the site’s explosive growth. Kellan is the co-author of several standards including OAuth, one of the key standards on the web today. In 1998, Kellan founded his first company, MetaEvents, which was acquired by Palm, Inc. in January 2000.
