New York Medical College and Touro College of Pharmacy Team to Offer Pharmacogenomics CME Course Sponsored by Admera Health

Posted on: 08 Aug 17

VALHALLA, N.Y. and SOUTH PLAINFIELD, N.J., Aug. 08, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Today, New York Medical College and Touro College of Pharmacy announced the wider availability of their joint Continuing Medical Education (CME) course, Principles of Genomics and Introduction to Personalized Medicine. The course which premiered live on March 21st, has been archived and is available through webinar with the goal of providing the medical community more exposure to pharmacogenomics (PGx). The CME course was made possible by an educational grant from molecular diagnostic company, Admera Health (www.admerahealth.com).

The course introduces the principles of PGx; specifically, how genetic variability can lead to different drug responses. The course then provides specific clinical case studies in the therapeutic areas of cardiology, oncology, psychiatry, and pain management. Other topics covered are Electronic Health Records and Reimbursement.

“As a leader in healthcare education, the CME program in pharmacogenomics is a natural fit with our institution’s commitment to life-long learning. Through both our curriculum, as well as our extensive research program in pharmacogenomics, Touro provides its students with significant exposure and practical experience in this cutting-edge area. We thank Admera Health for their support towards this initiative,” stated Dr. Zvi Loewy, Professor and Chair Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Sciences, Touro College of Pharmacy and Adjunct Professor, New York Medical College.

“This provides us an avenue to help educate the medical community on the importance of pharmacogenomics. As PGx testing becomes the standard of care, it has the potential to significantly reduce the number of Adverse Drug Events and drive down medical costs,” stated Guanghui Hu, PhD, President and CEO of Admera. Hu continued, “Given our position as the market leader in pharmacogenomics testing, this sponsorship opportunity was perfect fit for us.”

Admera Health offers PGxOne™ Plus testing, a PGx test assaying 50 genes and providing clinical recommendations for over 300 drugs.
