Vizient Presents on Radiopharmaceutical Trends at 2017 Mo-99 Topical Meeting

Vizient,Inc.
Posted on: 11 Sep 17

Vizient, Inc. announces Leah Gannon, MBA, senior portfolio executive, pharmacy sourcing operations will present on industry dynamics that affect radiopharmaceuticals at the National Nuclear Security Administration’s (NNSA) 2017 Mo-99 Topical Meeting, hosted by Argonne National Laboratory in Montreal, Sept. 10-13.

The Mo-99 Topical Meeting serves as a workshop where international and domestic policy and technical experts can gather to present and discuss progress toward achieving the production of Mo-99 without the use of highly enriched uranium (HEU) in support of nonproliferation objectives and global reliability of supply. View the agenda here.

Gannon will present on Tuesday, Sept. 12 at 8:30 a.m. ET and will provide an overview of several factors that are currently influencing the radiopharmaceutical supply chain from a group purchasing perspective: secure supply of medical isotopes, price sensitivity and reimbursement, and compliance with new regulatory requirements. She will also discuss Vizient’s commitment to support non-HEU adoption and advocacy efforts related to pricing stability and appropriate models for reimbursement.

The presentation coincides with the release of the new Vizient white paper, “Can the SPECT Nuclear Imaging Modality be Sustained?” The white paper examines the impact on the cost of radiopharmaceutical procurement after the conversion of medical isotopes from HEU to other alternatives. It also looks at the effect of proprietary product price increase, possible regulatory changes, and the issues health care organizations face regarding new payment models and declining reimbursements in the nuclear medicine space.
