Associate Director, Patient and Health Outcomes


This role will be focused on delivering projects supporting delivery of work supporting burden of illness and patient reported outcome studies supporting the clinical and social value of BioMarin products. The role will be within the EUMEA Market Access team as a part of the Health Economics and Outcomes Research shared center of excellence and will report to the Executive Director, Market Access & Public Policy EUMEA.


This role will have the following key responsibilities:

  • Liaise with clinical, medical and commercial teams to develop the needs for outcomes research projects to support the value story for marketed and pipeline products and programs
  • Lead outcome studies in particular studies focused on burden of illness and patient reported outcomes
  • Utilize expertise to recommend and develop patient reported outcomes tools for support of value story requirements
  • Liaison with patient groups and clinical experts in development of outcome studies and requirements
  • Supporting clinical and medical teams in the operationalization of recommendations in clinical trials
  • Working in a compliant manner following BioMarin codes of conduct

Strong interpersonal skills to work collaboratively across many functions in the company and across programs and also being an early collaborator with clinicians and patient support groups. In addition the person should have specific technical expertise in running and developing outcomes studies, epidemiological studies and patient reported outcomes.


Preferably PhD or Masters in outcome research, epidemiology or health economics



  • Solid experience in running health outcome studies, leading development of protocols, ethic approval, operationalization and analysis
  • Experience in recommending patient reported outcomes tools developing or validating tools, preferably for rare diseases
  • Experience in burden of illness and epidemiology studies
  • Strong experience in working with senior clinicians and patient support groups across studies
  • Solid understanding on the implementation of tools in clinical programs
  • Statistical skills sufficient to support validation and analysis of study data



This role will not have direct reports.


This role will have significant cross functional relations both internally and externally, with communications to the clinical science, clinical development, regulatory affairs, medical affairs, project management, patient advocacy, commercial teams and market access team. Externally there will be significant communication with senior clinicians and patient support groups.
