Senior Director, Global Clinical Development – Neurology

Location: South-East (Near Heathrow)

We are seeking a Director, Medical Affairs, Neurology for a role that will provide medical governance and strategic leadership for all Medical Affairs activities within Neurology, ideally by establishing strong partnerships, both internally and externally, and by growing and communicating the knowledge and value of patient solutions within the therapeutic area (TA) throughout the lifecycle

As the Director, Medical Affairs, Neurology you will be involved in Internal Scientific Communications, leading the development of the medical communication strategy and its plan for execution and also External Scientific Collaboration in a role where you act as key liaison to external scientific collaborators (key international opinion leaders, professional societies, groups) to identify new opportunities for scientific collaboration.

Your Key Objectives:

  • Championing medical strategy: You will be pivotally involved in developing the overall Mission strategy by providing unique medical insights, operating a reference source for the TA, patient solution team, and Regional colleagues, and ensuring appropriate communication of global strategy horizontally and vertically in the medical organisation.
  • Gather Insightful information: By understanding customers’ needs and translating these into the comprehensive Data Generation and Communication Plan and then executing the plan in collaboration with the Publication Team.
  • “Scientific Ambassador” to outside stakeholders: Reinforcing the positioning of my client as a leading Biopharmaceutical company.
  • “Peer” within this organisation: To build an effective and broad collaborative network throughout the company, going beyond the needs for immediate success, to contribute to others’ objectives and to projects that further business processes.
  • Strong leadership: Both at project and at organisational level, to establish and communicate a clear vision as well as to drive and coordinate the strategies to reach this vision.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Develop and deliver differentiated solutions, inspired by customer insights, for patients
  • Provide medical governance and strategic leadership over all medical activities for the relevant mission, by establishing superior partnerships, both internally and externally, by growing and communicating the knowledge and value of our patient solutions throughout their lifecycle.
  • Ensure that patients benefit from treatment options based on compelling evidence and unique medical insights.
  • Ensure development and delivery of medical strategies which translate in evidence impacting clinical practice decisions.

Ideal Profile:

  • Educated to a Masters level (MD, PhD or Pharm D advantageous) in a relevant scientific discipline.
  • In-depth knowledge of Pharmaceutical industry and related business compliance
  • Solid experience in Medical Affairs (affiliate or international medical affairs preferred, 10 years plus ideal).
  • Understands the impact of communication messages on others. Uses professional judgement and carefully crafts his/her communication by taking the listener’s perspective into consideration and by focussing on the goal of establishing a clear understanding/agreement.
  • Builds actively on long-term relationships, both internally as well as externally across different functions.

This is a unique role, suitable for a strategic thinker; an individual who respects the science and understands how to use the science to bring out the best results. You will be ‘Accountable’ & ‘Visible’ in a role where you will need to ‘Deliver’ and you will have experience of representing NMEs and in-line products in agency interactions, as medical lead, ideally with the US FDA (1st choice), or alternatively, with a broad number of EMA with national HAs meetings in Europe (2nd choice).
