Summarized Purpose: 

Ensures the production of high quality client deliverables through the effective line management of proposal managers and text analysts.  Impacts and contributes to business growth by implementing and leading improvements and change initiatives that align with commercial strategies.

Essential Functions 

  • Effectively recruits, inducts and retains proposal managers and text analysts.
  • Communicates with Commercial Strategy Leads regularly to obtain direction and feedback on employees ability to deliver on project responsibilities.
  • Identifies performance and process gaps and offers solutions and strategies for corrective action.
  • Leads and/or participates in departmental or cross-functional process improvement or corporate initiatives.
  • Remains current on industry events and regulations, corporate initiatives and departmental goals and seeks opportunities to assist employees and team in achieving them.
  • Maintains superuser level knowledge of systems used in proposal development process in order to train and support employees as well as suggest alternative process and/or systems to improve process or productivity.
  • Works with commercial strategy leads to ensure resourcing is adequate to meet time and quality.



Education and Experience: 

  • Previous experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job (comparable to 10 years) or equivalent and relevant combination of education, training, & experience.
  • 5 years of management responsibility
  • Proven leadership skills

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong leadership skills and ability to effectively engage employees and  manage employee performance
  • Excellent financial acumen
  • Excellent judgment and decision making skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills including the ability to communicate in English, both orally and in writing

  • Strong knowledge of clinical development process including functional operations and regulatory guidelines and directives
  • Expertise in budgeting, forecasting and resource management within a CRO environment
  • Strong sales and marketing skills
  • Skilled in process improvement
  • Knowledge of one or more therapeutic areas and medical terminology
  • Excellent computer skills

Management Role:

Directs through lower management levels and / or highly skilled specialist employees who exercise significant latitude and independent judgment.  Often heads one or more departments or a large centralized staff function.  In some instances may be responsible for a functional area (as determined by executive management) and not have subordinate supervisors or employees.   May manage employees across multiple regions. 

Working Conditions and Environment:

  • Exposure to high pressure, intense concentration needed

  • Must be able to multi-task constantly
  • Frequent interaction with clients / associates required
  • Long, varied hours required occasionally
  • Travel and rotating shifts required on rare occasions
  • Exposure to toxic materials on rare occasions

Physical Requirements:

  • Frequently stationary for 6-8 hours per day. 
  • Repetitive hand movement of both hands with the ability to make fast, simple, repeated movements of the fingers, hands, and wrists.  
  • Moderate mobility required. 
  • Occasional crouching, stooping, bending and twisting of upper body and neck. 
  • Light to moderate lifting and carrying (or otherwise moves) objects including luggage and laptop computer with a maximum lift of 15-20 lbs.
  • Ability to access and use a variety of computer software developed both in-house and off-the-shelf.
  • Ability to communicate complex information and ideas so others will understand; with the ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.
  • Frequently interacts with others, relates sensitive information to diverse groups both internally & externally.
  • Ability to apply abstract principles to solve complex conceptual issues.  Requires multiple periods of intense concentration.
  • Performs a wide range of complex tasks as dictated by variable demands and changing conditions with little predictability as to the occurrence.  Ability to perform under stress.  Ability to multi-task.
  • Regular and consistent attendance.
