The Director of Financial Control and Compliance Group (FC&CG) will have responsibility for  the Financial Controls & Compliance function within  the  Group Finance team based in Croxley Green   The role oversees the annual SOX certification exercise providing assurance to the CEO and CFO to support the annual certification. The FC&CG also plays a critical role in Smith & Nephew’s overall financial control environment with responsibility for;


The design of the group’s financial control standards and the evolution of these controls in line with the finance transformation and the group’s ERP implementation strategy. This will require a strong SAP and AX understanding and understanding of application and automated controls.

They will develop and implement the group’s strategy for compliance with the Sarbanes Oxley requirements – requiring strong technical understanding of the latest requirements including developments by the PCAOB.

The role involves  direct exposure to senior Smith & Nephew Finance, Compliance, Commercial and IT management across the organisation and  the development of strong relationships with the Group CFO and FMT. The individual needs to be an experienced control expert with an understanding of the group’s business model and Finance transactional processes. They will need to be well connected and networked across the business so they are actively consulted or advise on changes to group processes and controls.

Qualifications Requirements:

Commercial understanding of key business drivers, experience of life sciences industry preferred. 

Technical expert on latest  Sarbanes Oxley requirements, COSO 2013 and PCAOB developments

Control expert, experienced in designing controls, developing risk and control Matrices and control optimisation projects.

Professional qualification ACA and working knowledge of leading and maintain a Sarbanes Oxley compliance programme. 

Good understanding of application and automated controls. Knowledge of SAP and AX ERP systems preferred.

External Audit Practice – preferably Big 4 with experience of working with Global businesses and leading audits of companies with Sarbanes Oxley reporting requirements. Or alternatively large scale multinational industry background.
