Leading KKI’s Oncology Development Team the Director, Development Team Leader will: 

  • Establish, lead, direct and motivate cross-functional project teams to define and achieve the project goals in accordance with the agreed strategy, timelines and budget, establishing effective working relationship with Project Leaders assigned by KHK to the relevant project(s). 
  • Ensure effective communication processes are in place for sharing information within the project team and management whilst identifying, reviewing and resolving project issues and managing conflict resolution. 
  • Provide regular updates on project development activities to senior management and coordinate key decision making process. 
  • Review resource/experience requirements with the department heads and ensure core project documentation is maintained e.g. development plans, target product profile. 
  • With full accountability for achieving progression on time and within budget, you will have matrix management responsibility and the authority to assign responsibilities, coach and direct project team members for deliverables as needed to achieve project timelines and milestones. 
  • Participation in Departmental activities such as recruitment, staff meetings, department assignments as required and serve as a mentor to junior colleagues; promoting the career development of other employees whilst maintaining an understanding of current legal, regulatory, clinical, non-clinical and manufacturing practices necessary for the successful registration of drug candidates on a worldwide basis.   

Candidate requirements:

With a Master’s or PhD degree preferred, you will have at least ten years experience in the drug industry including significant experience in early or late clinical development, with experience in NDA/BLA filing preferred. Extensive experience will be considered in lieu of education. You will be comfortable and capable of using authority effectively and appropriately, with the ability to lead teams and communicate complex concepts effectively. In line with KKI’s DNA, you will be self-motivated and goal oriented, thriving on the ability to work without direction.

Technically a working knowledge of biology, chemistry and medical terminology is required and understanding of clinical trial organisation and management would be beneficial, as well as the operational practices of central laboratories. You will ideally possess working knowledge of toxicology, pharmacology and data management study design and data analysis. The ability to communicate effectively in both spoken written English is essential.

This role is within the Kyowa Kirin Development department at KKI headquarters in Galashiels, Scotland.  Galashiels is within the beautiful Scottish Borders; Edinburgh being only a 50 minute commute away, providing you with the opportunity to truly appreciate the great outdoors and city living. This role will also offer you the opportunity of global and domestic travel.
