PPD’s Human Resources team provides a partnering service to internal client groups across a number of European locations, helping them to grow and develop our business. This position is based at our office in Munich and will support our 3 German offices in Munich, Karlsruhe and Nuremberg, together with providing support to Austria and Switzerland.

PPD is a world-renowned and respected clinical research organisation, working with major pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies to provide expertise in discovery, development and post-approval services.

Overview of role

The role will have 4 key components;

  • Management of the German HR team comprising of 3 HR professionals
  • HR Business Partner to the Area Head and their leadership team
  • Act as the management link to the Works Council on behalf of the Geschäftsführer
  • Act as first triage for employment law enquiries from the Geschäftsführer, EMEA HR Director and Works Council
You will be based at the office in Munich but will be required to travel to other offices within and outside of Germany.  The role will report to the EMEA HR Director and will sit on their leadership team.


Qualifications

  • You will hold a law degree and have a specialist qualification and/or experience in employment law.  You will have a background in a professional services HR role with experience of leading an HR team and/or have practiced employment law in a law firm with hands-on HR support to clients in employment law matters such as works council negotiations.  The successful candidate should have an expert understanding and up to date working knowledge of employment law for Germany. This includes related negotiation skills, performance management and dealing with employment court litigation.
  • You will have expert knowledge of working with German works councils and must be able to advise Senior Management and the Work Council on matters of procedure / process and law.
  • You should be solutions focused but be able to reconcile this with group-wide strategies and approaches to issues with a view to managing costs effectively.
  • You must be highly motivated and be able to handle multiple tasks effectively with excellent attention to detail. Experience of working in a matrix organization would also be an advantage as would the exposure to working with remote/overseas locations.
  • In addition to German, mastery of written and spoken English is essential.
