CPRD Clinical Operations Manager


The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency enhance and improve the health of millions of people every day through the effective regulation of medicines and medical devices, underpinned by science and research.

The agency is made up of circa 1300 staff working across two main centres and peripatetically across the UK and abroad.

CPRD, jointly funded by the agency and the National Institute of Health Research (NIHR), is the UK’s preeminent research service providing access to anonymised NHS data for research. CPRD services are designed to maximise the way anonymised NHS clinical data can be used to improve and safeguard public health. For more than 20 years data provided by CPRD have been used in a range of drug safety and epidemiological studies that have impacted on health care and resulted in over 1500 peer-reviewed publications. The UK is in a unique global position to use clinical records in novel ways for patient recruitment, clinical trials management and follow up. In addition to supporting high quality observational research, CPRD is developing world leading services based on using real world data to support clinical trials and intervention studies.

Purpose of the role:

Demand is increasing for CPRD’s Real-world data services designed to improve efficiency of patient recruitment and clinical study management. The Clinical Operations Manager is responsible for managing the clinical operations team to ensure the operational delivery of a growing portfolio of CPRD supported Real-world clinical studies and services. Responsibilities include overseeing the development of study plans from approved protocols; managing a team and allocating resources to deliver studies on time and to target; monitoring progress of the portfolio of clinical studies and providing senior management with regular status and progress reports; resolving problems and issue escalation; and contributing to the ongoing development of CPRD’s innovative Real-world clinical study services.

The post is based within the Interventional Research team and reports to the Head of Clinical Operations. The post holder will manage a clinical operations team, work closely with all members of the Interventional Research team, and liaise with staff across CPRD and partners.

We are seeking a proactive individual with extensive experience within clinical operations to join our expanding organisation. You will have previously managed a clinical operations team, be proficient at deploying resources to meet the evolving needs of multiple projects, and possess excellent project management skills to deliver a portfolio of studies on time and to target.        


Healthcare or life sciences degree or equivalent work experience.

Pay Band and Salary

Grade 6: £62,411 -£64,000 per annum inc Inner London Weighting Allowance
