Job Summary:

AXESS has an exciting role for a Medical Science Liaison (MSL) Manager to join the UK Medical Affairs Department of a specialty-driven biotechnology business. Reporting directly to the UK and Ireland Medical Director, this role will manage a team of 5 regionally based MSLs covering their oncology portfolio with imminent launches over the next three years.

The Medical Science Liaison [MSL] Manager leads and manages the regionally based field based MSL team (5 headcount), ensuring, in conjunction with the Medical Director that ethical, compliant, timely and effective medical and scientific expertise and initiatives are provided and are aligned with the disease area operational plans and medical department objectives. 

The MSL Manager will work closely with the therapeutic area medical leads to provide consistent communications on strategy for the MSL team through scientific and clinical therapeutic area leadership to support on a non-promotional basis, medical and scientific initiatives for marketed and pipeline products.

The MSL Manager provides strategic leadership and guidance to the MSL team in the identification of local opportunities and the development of MSL plans closely aligned to national medical plans, using his/her, knowledge of Key Opinion Leaders (KOL); the therapeutic area(s) and health characteristics of the population.

The MSL Manager has responsibility for the leadership and development of the Medical Science Liaison (MSL) Team and the implementation of the scientific activities and the MSL plans.




  • Proven established experience in successfully leading, coaching and managing an MSL field based team  
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain credible and scientific relationships with top experts in the speciality disease area(s)
  • Working knowledge of the ABPI Code of Practice


  • Scientific University education to post-graduate degree level or equivalent-e.g. MSc, PhD, MD, PharmD
  • Knowledge of the processes and regulations within the NHS and the Pharmaceutical Industry
  • Ability to collaborate and share information to contribute to strategic plans
  • Excellent verbal, written, presentation, analytical and interpersonal skills
  • Current full UK driving license
