Our Global Pharmaceutical Client is looking for an External Communications Director / Communications Lead to join their team in Middlesex for 6 months. This role requires proven external communications experience, media relations skills, sound judgement with a clear understanding of the consumer, business and pharmaceutical environments

Key Responsibilities:

* Build shareholder/analyst and media confidence in our client's business strategy through development and execution of proactive media communications. This includes proactive strategies around newsflow, but also maintaining interest in these announcements over time through “content campaigns” (media features, capitalising on broadcast documentaries) on key areas of the Group
* Deliver media handling for corporate events such as quarterly financial results, strategic business updates and Annual General Meeting with shareholders
* Support the development of the Annual Corporate Reporting programme: specifically development of annual report content/messaging in relation to business performance and the Consumer Healthcare business
* Sensitively handle issues often in pressurised circumstances
* Develop and execute digital communications plans for corporate and financial work. Specifically, work with the digital team on the corporate Consumer Healthcare pages of our client's website
* Develop and deliver a programme of proactive outputs focused on the Consumer Healthcare business strategy as well as other key initiatives that have global relevance. This includes both features in the global business & financial and consumer press and full integration of these stories with other external communications vehicles (website, FB, Twitter, YouTube, etc
* Lead a strategy and plan to introduce the CEO and management team of the Consumer Healthcare business to global business & financial press and consumer media including media training and pre-briefings
* Work with the Consumer category and regional communications teams in developing relevant narratives and key messages which reflect overall Consumer business strategy and can be used in their various external communication channels, including digital

Qualifications / Experience / Skills:

Essential:

* Extensive external communications experience with proven expertise in media relations
* Very strong writing & strategic planning skills required
* A very strong understanding of media and the external media environment in the UK and globally
* Experience with news media handling and global issues management
* Ability to independently anticipate and assess how quickly business issues may escalate in the news media and potential impact on company reputation
* A strong understanding of digital channels (Twitter, Facebook, web)
* Ability to identify and understand the differing needs of the business units and markets and the corresponding communications needs as a result
* Clear understanding of external environment and corporate agenda
* Able to quickly build relationships, influence, challenge thinking and gain credibility with senior communicators
* Experience and confidence to proactively initiate communication, often in challenging circumstances
* Ability to rapidly assess complex situations from a communications perspective and exercise sound judgement; work in, and lead teams, often highly matrixed around the company; deliver high quality communications under pressure and tight deadlines; operate with the highest integrity and discretion and able to take an enterprise wide view
* Excellent networking skills
