As a result of continued business growth, my client is currently seeking a senior/principal statistician(experience dependent), with the enthusiasm, vision and flexibility in approach required to play a key and influential role within the Statistics team. A good understanding of health economics and statistics within is imperative and experience within a consultancy environment would be highly beneficial.
Key responsibilities will include, but not be limited to: leading statistical input and providing expert guidance to projects, developing statistical analysis plans, performing and reporting statistical analysis as standalone research or for input into health economic models that will provide direct information to clients, and governing/reimbursement bodies and/or for publication. Common types of analyses/projects performed include, but are not restricted to:
- Survival analyses:
o Parametric survival analyses
o Fractional polynomial modelling
o Adjustments from treatment switch/cross-over within clinical trials
- Indirect treatment comparisons
o Network meta-analyses
o Mixed treatment comparison
o Matched adjusted indirect comparisons
- Analyses of clinical trial data (e.g. quality of life)
- Analyses of observational data/real world evidence
- Reimbursement submissions to health technology agencies
The successful candidate should be motivated to learn and apply new methodologies and techniques in the evolving field of health technology assessment and reimbursement.
Close collaboration, both within the Statistics team and cross- functionally with the Evidence Review, Strategic Insights, and Health Economics teams, is an essential part of the role. Furthermore, this role is seen as a client-facing position, contributing directly to business development via input into the process of proposal development.
The role can be tailored to an individual candidate’s strengths and aspirations, but will include a mix of roles and responsibilities, including strategic input and oversight of statistical content on projects, collaboration internally and externally with experts in specific fields, programming, writing (planning, reporting, manuscripts and submission documents), quality control, mentoring, training, and for the suitable candidate, there are line management opportunities.
The ideal candidate will be expected to have a BSc/BA in mathematics, statistics or a closely related field, and a post graduate qualification is a relevant field. Programming skills (e.g. SAS, R, WinBUGS) are also required.
Five or more years’ work experience as a statistician with and/or for the pharmaceutical industry is an advantage, as is experience working in a consultancy environment, and/or experience in the field of health technology assessment.
Due to the project-based nature of the business, the successful candidate will need to have an enthusiasm for variety along with a flexible attitude. The post holder will also need to be organised (with particular excellence in time management), meticulous, reliable, and self-motivated. Interpersonal and communication skills are imperative as is the willingness to be a team player. The role also provides opportunities for both national and international travel, but is primarily office-based in Sheffield (though working from our Manchester office is an option).
