This role operates in a rapidly growing division of PPD focused on peri-post approval and late stage clinical trials.   It is a unique opportunity at the intersection of a best-in-class CRO (PPD) and the preeminent consulting firm for scientific leadership (Evidera).  Our joint goal is to be the world leading CRO, HEOR and market access organization supporting our clients across the product development continuum.  We are creating a world class sales organization to drive industry-leading growth and are recruiting selectively for this specialized team.   Position Overview   This position will primarily focus on leading and driving business development for new combined service offerings in the late phase space.  However, the Senior Account Director role is different from traditional sales roles.  It has high visibility to senior leaders at PPD and Evidera and provides the opportunity to lead a cross-functional team with significant exposure outside of the sales organization.  This position offers the opportunity to lead teams and influence in a matrixed environment such that sales targets and account goals are met.  This provides the opportunity to demonstrate management and leadership experience while functioning as an individual contributor, thus setting up the individual for future growth and development.  In addition, there is opportunity to engage with many different types of accounts with various relationship maturities and at different points in the sales cycle.     Responsibilities  

  • Responsible for building and developing the pipeline, maintaining win rates, effectively leveraging the broader selling team to ultimately achieve sales targets
  • Securing and retaining business through professional, consultative, proactive sales activities directed at decision-makers and decision influencers at existing and new clinical sponsors. 
  • Leverages personal network and PPD’s networks to create and expand client relationships; initiates and leads client visits
  • Serve as central account owner and craft/oversee the execution of effective strategic account plans
  • Lead cross-functional account teams to maximize impact from different departments and business units across PPD and Evidera
  • Assess execution and progress against account plans and maintains sales database to ensure strong performance and continuous improvement over time
  • Qualify deals and develop proposals including developing unique value propositions to solve client needs and defining the solutions and recommend pricing structures to meet strategic company goals. 
  • Prepare client presentations, negotiate, and close contracts. 
  • Serve as the primary contact until work is sold, then coordinate with the relevant clinical and scientific development area(s) to ensure a successful implementation.  Act as a liaison between sponsor and company on all business development activities and requirements. 
  • Ensure client satisfaction through proactive client contact; report and develop recommendations to address client dissatisfaction; respond to all client requests.
  • Gather data on marketing trends and competitive products/services and pricing.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in science or business, MBA a plus.
  • 3-5 years experience in CRO, Pharmaceutical, or Medical Device sales or 5-10 years related experience in the Pharmaceutical or CRO industry. 
  • Prior experience in late stage clinical operations, medical affairs a plus.
  • Track record of achieving/exceeding performance targets.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills in order to manage and fully integrate with Operations, Scientific organization, Finance, Bids & Contracts and Marketing, and follow-up to expand relationships and business opportunities. 
  • Demonstrated experience in identifying and developing sales leads, making professional presentations, managing the sales process through close, and handling all aspects of contract negotiations.
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to effectively manage in a cross-functional environment, including gaining buy-in and support from internal stakeholders
  • Ability to think strategically, creatively, and a hunger to compete and win
  • Excels in fast-paced, entrepreneurial environments and takes ownership and initiative over personal book of business
