Scientist – Cell Culture  (on-site Stevenage, UK)

PPD is currently looking to recruit a Scientist to be based on-site at one of our clients in Stevenage, Hertfordshire as part of contracted work from PPD.

The role of Scientist is to work in their Biopharm Central Testing Laboratory (BioCTL). 

Ideal candidate is responsible for the routine cell subcultivation of various cell lines. To support Bioassay testing of Drug Substance, Drug Product, and stability samples for internally and externally manufactured Biopharm products. It is also responsible for ensuring that analytical equipments are successfully maintained its routine cleaning and calibration/verification checks

Key responsibilities: 

• Routine cell culturing to support bioassay testing in accordance with regulatory requirements and agreed schedules.

 

• Preparation of reagents and cell culture media to support cell culturing and bioassays.

 

• Sample management to support QC testing. 

 

• Maintain detailed laboratory records in accordance with current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP) through the use of controlled proforma or laboratory notebooks. 

 

• Responsible for the calibration and maintenance of the laboratory equipment, ensuring records are maintained of any calibration, maintenance.

 

• Facilitate the ordering of laboratory consumables to ensure efficient running of the laboratory and responsible for the safe storage and/or disposal of test samples, reference materials and reagents following set procedures. 

 

• Write, review and update SOPs and associated pro-forma used within the laboratory.

 

• Reliable and interested to learn and apply new techniques.

Qualifications

Skills and experience

• Education to a Bachelors or higher level in Biochemistry or related subjects

• Has an understanding of working to GMP and GLP compliance

• Previous work experience in a scientific area.

• Willing to be involved in working with a team as well as independently.

• Has a keen eye for detail.

• Is literate, numerate and computer literate.

• Has good planning and organising skills with ability for problem solving.

• Is able to communicate effectively with colleagues and managers within laboratory.

• Reliable and interested to learn and apply new techniques.

This position is available on a permanent basis.
