A scientist is required in the Antibody Discovery and Protein Engineering department of MedImmune, with experience of (i) protein expression and purification and (ii) protein analysis. The role would be within a multi-skilled, multi-disciplinary team with responsibilities for MedImmune’s pipeline drug projects and also the development of new platform technologies for the company. The role is predominantly lab-based but with additional responsibilities for communicating plans and results locally and with collaborating groups within MedImmune and AstraZeneca.



Some of the responsibilities include:



* Contribute to project progression through the cloning, expression and purification of proteins in prokaryotic and eukaryotic systems
* Perform protein analysis (e.g. quantification, purity and MW determination, N-terminal sequencing)
* Perform additional molecular biology tasks (e.g. cloning, phage display selections) as and when required by the project
* Work with project teams to co-ordinate supply of proteins within project timelines
* Analyse results and compile data summaries for project meetings, patents and publications
* Communicate results, conclusions and recommendations to colleagues, at team meetings and to external collaborators





Essential requirements:



* Degree in Life Sciences
* General understanding of biologics drug discovery and the applications of biological drugs
* Protein expression and purification in both prokaryotic and eukaryotic systems
* Familiarity with protein purification systems e.g. Akta
* Protein analysis by SDS-PAGE, western blot, spectrophotometry
* Knowledge of DNA sequence analysis software, including oligonucleotide and construct design
* Ability to work aseptically in tissue culture





Desired requirements





* PhD in relevant area or relevant industry experience
* Performing molecular biology and biochemistry techniques, such as DNA manipulations, phage display and protein engineering, to achieve project objectives
* Advanced protein analysis e.g. Mass Spectrometry for N-terminal sequencing
* Running kinetic binding screens e.g. BIAcore, Octet
* Protein conjugation experience e.g. biotinylation of proteins
