There are roles in 2 areas of the business:


The Apprentice Histology Technician will embark on a training programme to develop the theoretical understanding and practical laboratory skills involved in working with these tissue samples to generate slides for microscopic evaluation. A comprehensive range of skills are required which include tissue recognition, cutting, staining and microscopy; and its associated data management.


The Apprentice Necropsy Technician will embark on a training programme to develop the theoretical understanding and practical laboratory skills involved in post-mortem procedures. A comprehensive range of skills are required which include animal tissue dissection, tissue preservation and handling procedures and the associated data management. The apprentice necropsy technician will also gain exposure to animal handling techniques as a pre-requisite for holding a personal Home Office Licence for the correct handling of animals in line with current UK legislation for humane euthanasia techniques and post-mortem procedures.

Apprentices in all of the above areas will be required as a minimum to carry out the following:

- routine and one-off laboratory testing and perform a variety of technical laboratory based support;
- work both individually and as part of the laboratory team;
- work with minimum supervision, taking responsibility for the quality and accuracy of the work that is undertaken;
- work safely in the laboratory, maintaining excellent housekeeping whilst following appropriate safety, environment and risk management systems;
- ensure the laboratory is well-stocked and resourced and be able to maintain good accurate written records of work carried out;
- follow quality procedures to meet the requirements of quality standards relevant to the workplace; and
- develop and apply your theoretical knowledge of relevant science and technology required for the sector and job role.
Education/Qualifications - Educated with 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) grades A-C in Math's, English and Science.
- A-level in Biology or Chemistry preferred but not essential
- Able to understand and follow instructions competently
- Able to work independently as well as part of a team
- Great attention to detail
- Good communication skills
Experience No previous Experience required, however any relevant Experience is advantageous.
