Overview The Executive Director, Clinical Project Management provides strategic direction to the project management team and ensures staff development, training, performance feedback and HR policies are properly implemented.  He/she mentors and leads project teams and facilitates an efficient and effective project management group by managing the company processes and systems within the framework of the company’s mission statement, policy and philosophy.

Overview

The Executive Director, Clinical Project Management provides strategic direction to the project management team and ensures staff development, training, performance feedback and HR policies are properly implemented.  He/she mentors and leads project teams and facilitates an efficient and effective project management group by managing the company processes and systems within the framework of the company’s mission statement, policy and philosophy.

 

Responsibilities

  • Monitors and provides overall direction, strategy and performance standards for Clinical Project Managers/Directors/Teams:

    • Ensures services provided to clients are compliant with the company policies, procedures, SOPs, ICH-GCPs, client contractual expectations and country specific regulatory requirements

    • Coordinates with C-Suite leadership to assure projects are meeting corporate and client objectives

  • Conducts internal meetings with the operational leadership to review the priorities and overall project status on a regular basis.

  • Develops and maintains key metrics regarding department/company performance. Investigates ways to improve department / company performance.

  • Ensures effective control of supply and demand for PM resources.  Reviews Project Management allocation against current and pending resource requirements assigns projects to ensure optimum utilization. 

  • Supports Business Development efforts by providing insight / recommendations with project budgeting and resourcing, developing content for RFP/RFI's, and participating in Bid Defense meetings.
  • Develops and maintains department budget.

  • Mentors and develops project teams to expand employee performance levels and to assure retention of high performing employees.

  • Provides Project Management oversight ensuring all projects are managed within the contracted schedule and budget via the monthly project review process.

  • Represents the project management department in forums and meetings inside and outside of company.

  • Serves as the key relationship manager for assigned clients; recommends courses of action regarding client management issues; implements plans following approval by Executive Management.

  • Provides advice and counsel to senior management on appropriate project/processes to streamline project coordination and decision-making.

  • Responsible for overall leadership and management responsibility for Project Managers and administrative personnel including employment, motivation, training, counseling, professional development, discipline and performance evaluation. 

 

Qualifications

 

Academic & Professional Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Healthcare Management or a related field of study required.

  • Master's degree preferred.

  • 15+ years applicable Contract Research Organization (CRO) industry experience required with at least 12 years of operational improvement and clinical project management experience

  • A minimum of 7 years experience of demonstrated success in managing, mentoring and developing direct reports and Project Management teams.

Skills & Experience

  • In-depth knowledge of GCPs, ICH guidelines, FDA and other applicable country regulations.
  • Global Project Management management and team leadership experience within a CRO a must.

  • Strong interpersonal, teamwork, problem-solving skills in order to deal with customers, business partners, staff and management from a variety of skill levels and experiences; Ability to influence without direct authority.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in an evolving, matrixed, team environment. 

  • Demonstrated ability to establish credibility and rapport internally and externally

  • Analytical thinker with excellent problem solving skills and the ability to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines.

  • Excellent planning, organization and time management skills including the ability to support and prioritize multiple projects.

  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, Outlook and internet explorer.
  • Effective verbal and writing skills; English + local language, if relevant. 

Work Arrangements:

  • This role can be located in our Morrisville, NC or Carlsbad, CA offices or be remotely based.
