The Platform Services Engineer (Systems Engineer) is responsible for effective design, installation, configuration, operation, maintenance and continual improvement of systems hardware, software, related infrastructure and associated documentation within the SynteractHCR global computing environment.

 

Responsibilities

  • Design, install, configure, operate, maintain and continually improve the global Active Directory environment including, but not limited to Active Directory Services,  trusts, sites and services, Group Policy Objects, Organizational Units, etc.
  • Design, install, configure, operate, maintain and continually improve Microsoft Windows Server Operating Systems and associated features & roles including, but not limited to Cluster Services, iSCSI, DHCP, DNS, File Services, IIS, RADIUS, Certificate Services, WSUS, RDS, ADFS, WAP etc.
  • Design, install, configure, operate, maintain and continually improve server security solutions including, but not limited to IDS, IPS, antivirus, encryption, firewalling, server OS hardening, etc.
  • Design, install, configure, operate, maintain and continually improve Platform Services system ownership list including, but not limited to SFTP Services, Fax Services, Web Services and other related systems.
  • Design, install, configure, operate, maintain and continually improve monitoring, reporting and alerting solutions.
  • Design, install, configure, operate, maintain and continually improve server hardware solutions, firmware and associated drivers.
  • Design, install, configure, operate, maintain and continually improve backup environment including, but not limited to backup hardware, software and associated backup agents.
  • Establish, maintain and continually improve operational processes and procedures in compliance with governing policies and or Standard Operating Procedures
  • Ensures systems and services documentation are established, maintained and continually improved within the SynteractHCR Service Knowledge Management System.
  • Works with team members to ensure maintenance schedules and associated SLA’s are being observed for all systems owned by the Platform Services team.
  • Responds to and resolves service ticket escalations from Global Service Desk and Global Systems within agreed service levels (SLAs/SLOs).
  • Provides functional team expertise in relation to Change Evaluation and Change Management activities.   
  • Provides functional team expertise for root cause analysis in relation to Problem Management activities.
  • Provides mentorship, guidance and training to junior Systems Administrators
  • Assists team leads and Management in roadmap planning exercises as they relate to Platform Services offerings.
  • Works with team members and Management in defining measurements and to provide appropriate metrics for capacity planning.
  • Provides software tracking and usage reporting to Management.
  • Identifies, reports on and recommends corrective action on deviations from agreed service level agreements (SLA/SLO).
  • Provides cross functional expertise to other Global Systems functional teams as required.
  • Other duties as assigned by Management.

Qualifications

Academic & Professional Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university in a related field; or
  • 12+ years related experience; or
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Certifications preferred but not required:  MCSE/MCSA, ITIL Foundations or higher, CCNA, VCP, or other industry standard certifications that may be relevant to position.

Skills & Experience:

  • Advanced knowledge of best practices in the aforementioned technologies.
  • Advanced knowledge of networking concepts as they relate to Windows Services functionality.
  • Advanced knowledge in backup, recovery and disaster recovery concepts.
  • Advanced knowledge of ITIL concepts and or other industry standard best practice frameworks and associated processes including, but not limited to Request fulfillment, Incident, Problem, Change and Event Management.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft licensing concepts
  • Expert level proficiency working within Windows Server Operating Systems.
  • Expert level proficiency working with Windows roles, features and services including, but not limited to iSCSI, Windows Clustering, DHCP, DNS, AD DS, GPOs, Roaming Profiles, Remote Desktop Services, PowerShell.
  • Extensive experience working with and designing Server hardware solutions.
  • Expert level skills working with and designing Anti-Malware solutions using products such as Trend Micro and Sophos Antivirus Software.
  • Extensive experience working with and designing Enterprise monitoring solutions with products such Solarwinds APM and System Center Operations Manager.
  • Extensive experience working with and designing Enterprise backup solutions using products such as CommVault, Backup Exec, vRanger.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, Outlook and Visio.
  • Effective verbal and writing skills; English + local language, if relevant.
  • Willingness to participate in on call rotation as well as work outside normal business hours, where required, to resolve incidents, problems, complete projects and/or maintenance.
