Typically, a Business Development Manager:

  • Reports to, and receives instructions from, the Vice-President for Marketing, or Vice-President for Sales and Marketing;
  • Manages all the marketing affairs of the Business Unit or Department;
  • Supervises and coaches all the Brand Managers under his Unit or Department;
  • Provides intellectual leadership and ideas in the preparation of the different marketing plans containing the marketing strategies, activities, promotional materials with their corresponding budgets;
  • Prepares the sales, samples, and free goods forecasts after due consultation with the Brand Managers and Sales Supervisors;
  • Periodically reviews the incentive schemes of the Brand Managers and develops and tests cost-effective evaluation parameters;
  • Improves the product knowledge and selling skills of all staff of the Unit or Department through the conduct of periodic lectures and training, and
  • Performs other duties that may be assigned to him by his direct supervisor.

  • Graduate of life sciences, such as medicine, nursing, physical therapy, psychology, pharmacy, biology, zoology, and medical technology;
  • Preferably with Master’s degree in business administration or marketing;
  • Has worked in a pharmaceutical company, or related field, for at least 5 years as Brand Manager or Sales Supervisor.



A Business Development Manager, after at least 5 years, might progress to become as (1) Head-Business Unit, handling both the marketing and sales staff , or (2) Vice-President for Marketing, handling the marketing staff for the whole company, or (3) Vice-President for Sales and Marketing, handling both the marketing and sales staff of the whole company.
