What does a Medical Affairs Director (MAD) do?



Typically, a Medical Affairs Director:

  • Reports to, and receives instructions from, the General Manager, or Chief Executive Officer of the company;
  • Manages and supervises all staff under the Medical Department;
  • Evaluates, comments on, and approves/disapproves proposed protocol(s) for clinical trial(s);
  • Leads in the overall monitoring of all ongoing clinical trials;
  • Allocates and disburses the budget for each ongoing clinical trial(s);
  • Screens and evaluates all candidates for employment in the Department;
  • Conducts lectures to increase the product knowledge of Sales Representatives;
  • Represents the company in all medical meetings called for by medical societies, clinical trial investigators, and the Food and Drugs Administration; and
  • Performs other duties that may be assigned to him by the General Manager, or the Chief Executive Officer of the company.

 

 

  • Graduate of Doctor of Medicine and Surgery, preferably with residency in Internal Medicine, or with Master or Ph D degree in Pharmacology, or Statistics;
  • Preferably with experiences in medical , health, and nutrition researches;
  • Has worked in another pharmaceutical company as Business Development Manager, or Medical Affairs Director, or Medical Director for at least 3 years.



A Medical Affairs Director, after at least 5 years, might progress to General Manager of the company, or Chief Executive Officer of the company, or Regional Medical Affairs Director, handling several medical departments in different countries in the region.
