After internal recruitment methods have been exhausted, GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) uses the Internet to recruit its people before using more traditional methods. Our aim is to reduce the cost per hire and time to fill positions whilst continuing to source high quality candidates. At GSK, e-Recruitment is more than posting adverts on the Internet. It is about leveraging a wide range of web-based technology. The e-Recruitment team source candidates, promote the GSK on-line brand, develop on-line recruitment strategies, research and evaluate web information for all of the UK-based businesses. These businesses include Research & Development, Manufacturing, IT, Pharmaceuticals and Consumer Healthcare. These businesses employ c23,000 people in disciplines such as Science, Sales, HR, Engineering, Marketing, Finance and Legal. When a candidate visits our corporate web site www.gsk.com they can request to be notified of suitable jobs at a later stage, they have the ability to save and retrieve personal profiles, and the option to e-mail a job to a friend. They can also leave their CV in our database for use by the E-Recruiters as and when a suitable vacancy occurs. This facility allows GSK to enhance its candidate pool for current and future recruitment needs. In addition to our corporate website we also use a number of general and specialist websites to attract active and passive candidates to the Company. When a candidate applies for one of our jobs, in the majority of cases it's an on-line process that takes their CV through to our automated Recruitment System. A member of the e-Recruitment team then considers their application. E-Recruiting is beneficial as it allows us to reach a wide audience of people in and out of the UK at the touch of a button, which is key to a global organisation. For the first time ever we are able to know the number of people who are viewing our job-site as well as those who have applied. Our statistics to date show that we are reaching an ethnically diverse population of people. Candidates can access more information about GSK than via other methods and people recruited are more likely to embrace technology. As the Internet is open 24 hours, 7 days a week recruitment activity can continue long after we have gone home! In the future, we expect that the majority of our hires will come through e-Recruitment and our reliance on traditional methods will be significantly reduced.
