The portability and ease of use of SonoSite’s M-Turbo® hand-carried ultrasound system are providing the Norfolk and Waveney AAA Screening Programme with high quality imaging in a community setting, ensuring an effective and consistent AAA screening service. Mr Les Samuels, Lead Sonographer in the Vascular Lab at the Norwich and Norfolk University Hospital and clinical skills trainer/Lead Ultrasound Clinician for the programme, explained: “Our service covers a large area – including the whole of Norfolk and some of North Suffolk – with a team of six technicians screening around 8,000 men a year at GP surgeries and primary care clinics across the community. The nature of this work requires a highly portable, robust ultrasound system that is capable of withstanding the inevitable knocks it will receive in this role, and we chose SonoSite’s M-Turbo for its compact, durable design and ease of use.”
“As with all AAA screening programmes, our technicians are not experienced sonographers, and so a straightforward system was a key consideration. The M-Turbo provides consistently good image quality for this application without the need to make too many adjustments, and so is ideal for less experienced users. Technical support is also very important for this type of communitybased programme, as instruments are in constant use, and we knew from experience that we could rely on SonoSite’s service and support.”
