Posted on: 09 Nov 16

Biological Industries USA (“BI USA”), the North American division of Biological Industries, a leading developer and manufacturer of cell culture media, molecular biology tools, human cytogenetics media, stem cell research, and custom media manufacturing services, announces a major sponsorship of CURE Innovation Commons (“The Commons”), a new science and technology incubator in Groton, Connecticut. The sponsorship includes training, substantial product discounts and stem cell research grants for residents of The Commons throughout 2017.

“We are delighted to sponsor CURE Innovation Commons,” commented Tanya Potcova, CEO of BI USA. “Having opened our doors in Connecticut just last year, we see so much potential for research and collaboration in Connecticut. This particularly includes New London County, with its educated workforce, proximity to both Boston and New York City, and excellent infrastructure. We want to do all we can to help nurture that potential and to help ensure that the Nutmeg State becomes a true science hub.”

CURE Innovation Commons boasts 22,000 square feet of commercial-grade laboratory, office and coworking spaces as well as meeting and event facilities, complemented by modern technology infrastructure.

BI USA will kick off their sponsorship on November 17 during the second “Thirsty Thursday at The Commons,” an informal social gathering for the Connecticut entreprenures and industry professionals, at The Commons at 93 Shennacossett Road in Groton. The science and technology community are invited to visit from 4:30-6:30pm to sample the complimentary refreshments, including locally brewed beer, and enjoy a brief talk on the advantage of locating a life sciences startup in Connecticut by Peter Mousseau, founder of Rainbow Scientific in Windsor and board member of BI USA. In support of the Commons’ sponsorship of the Groton Food Locker Holiday Food Basket Program, guests are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to the event. Scientists, start-ups, and all others from across field are welcome and encouraged to attend.

“We are very pleased to enter this sponsorship agreement with BI USA,” said Susan Froshauer, Ph.D., President of The Commons, and President and CEO of CURE (Connecticut United for Research Excellence). “We see it as an ideal partnership in which the local division of a major international life sciences company decides to invest in nurturing industry right in its own backyard. We thank Tanya and the team at BI USA and we look forward to working with them, toward making Connecticut a true leader in the life sciences.”
