NEW YORK, Aug. 9, 2017 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Dependable Care Flexible Spending and Health Savings Account administrator, Clarity Benefit Solutions, lists eight ways to encourage employers to offer ancillary benefits.

  1. Offer ancillary benefits at a group rate. Employees may be discouraged if they have to purchase ancillary benefits on an individual basis. Offering the benefits at a group level will help keep the premiums reasonably priced.
  2. Provide employees with concise recommendations. Let's face it, choosing the right benefits package can be challenging to the most intelligent employees, let alone considering the many ancillary benefit options. This is the time to be crystal clear about what ancillary benefits the employee can take advantage of, so he or she is confident when it comes to choosing the most suitable selections.
  3. Automate the enrollment process. Automatically enrolling employees in an ancillary benefits program will probably result in more employees taking advantage of these benefits. Most employees don't want to be bothered with the process, or may simply lack awareness about such benefits. Offering automatic enrollment is a great way to increase awareness.
  4. Reward employees with financial incentives for enrollment. Employers who may believe it is challenging to inspire employees to enroll in ancillary benefits should consider providing a financial incentive such as a gift card or bonus for enrollment.
  5. Fund a portion of the ancillary benefits. What better way to encourage employees to enroll in ancillary benefits than to pay for a percentage of the premiums? Typically, when this occurs, an employer will pay 50 to 100 percent of the premiums.
  6. Allow employees to pay for ancillary benefit premiums with pre-tax monies. Employers should take advantage of Section 125 of the IRS code, which allows employees to pay ancillary benefit premiums with pre-tax monies. This will also permit employees to lower their taxable income—which is a definite win-win!
  7. Emphasize being proactive instead of reactive. Taking advantage of ancillary benefits, such as vision and dental, allows employees to take charge of their health instead of simply reacting to an issue or illness.
  8. Emphasize the preventative aspect. Ancillary vision and dental benefits allow employees to be proactive about their health so they receive preventative care—rather than reacting to an illness or issue.
