CHICAGO, Aug. 17, 2017

CHICAGO, Aug. 17, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The American Brain Tumor Association (ABTA) is now accepting Letters of Intent (LOI) for three research funding opportunities. ABTA-funded research projects have supported novel and high-impact projects in brain tumors. Request for funding LOIs are accepted until Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at noon Central Daylight Time.

For almost 45 years, the ABTA's focus has been to advance the understanding and treatment of brain tumors. Each research grant funded by the ABTA is selected based on the way it supports that greater mission. The rigorous external review process ensures that these grants are awarded to the projects with most potential to make an impact for brain tumor patients.

"The ABTA has awarded brain tumor research grants for over four decades," said Nicole Willmarth, PhD, chief science officer, American Brain Tumor Association. "We are seeding the field by supporting early career investigators and we're proud to continue our legacy of funding collaborative, innovative brain tumor science."

Eligible researchers have three funding opportunities available:

Research Collaboration Grant Program: These are two year grants that support multi-PI, multi-disciplinary projects that can streamline and accelerate advances in the understanding and treatment of brain tumors through collaborative team science.

Basic Research Fellowship Program: These two year fellowships are supporting postdoctoral fellows conducting brain tumor research under the mentorship of an experienced investigator in the field.

Discovery Grant Program: These one year grants are working to support high-risk/high-impact, innovative projects that have the potential to change current diagnostic or treatment paradigms for either adult or pediatric brain tumors. Submission of discovery-driven science and proof-of-concept studies are encouraged.

Research projects under the Research Collaboration, Basic Research Fellowship and Discovery Grant Programs are all pre-screened using a LOI mechanism.
