OAKLAND, Calif., Aug. 21, 2017

OAKLAND, Calif., Aug. 21, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Bernard J. Tyson, Kaiser Permanente chairman and CEO, has been named the fourth most influential person in health care by Modern Healthcare, a leading industry publication. Sens. Susan Collins, John McCain and Lisa Murkowski were collectively named to the top spot on the "100 Most Influential People in Healthcare" list, followed by Tyson, who was the top-ranked health care leader. This is the fourth consecutive year Tyson has been recognized on the prestigious list.

Actively engaged in the national debate on the future of health care, Tyson is a strong advocate for making health care more affordable and more accessible, calling for greater access to the "front door" of the American health care system. Due to his leadership and the exceptional care provided by employees and Permanente Medical Group physicians, Kaiser Permanente is delivering on its mission – to provide high-quality, affordable health care and to improve the health of the communities it serves.

Kaiser Permanente is also recognized for taking a leadership role in mental health and wellness. In fact, Tyson is cited by Modern Healthcare for making "mental health awareness a priority" as part of its total health approach and for the organization's work in "integrating mental health services into primary-care settings."

Three Kaiser Permanente leaders are named to Modern Healthcare's "100 Most Influential People in Healthcare" list this year. In addition to Tyson, A. Eugene Washington, MD, president and CEO of Duke University Health System and member of the Kaiser Foundation Health Plan, Inc. and Hospitals boards of directors is ranked No. 74. Christine Cassel, MD, planning dean of the new Kaiser Permanente School of Medicine, is No. 100.

Now in its 16th year, Modern Healthcare's annual "100 Most Influential People in Healthcare" list continues to honor individuals who make a significant impact on both the health care industry and within their organizations.
