Colorado BioScience Association, Senator Michael Bennet Host U.S. Food and Drug Administration Commissioner, Dr. Scott Gottlieb, for Life Science Industry Roundtable

Colorado BioScience Association (CBSA) and Senator Michael Bennet introduced the new U.S. FDA Commissioner, Dr. Scott Gottlieb, to Colorado’s inventive life science sector today. CBSA and Senator Bennet co-hosted a roundtable discussion at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus covering topics including clinical trials, Breakthrough Therapy Designation, precision and regenerative medicine, the regulatory landscape for diagnostics, the digital health regulatory action plan, and the implementation of the 21st Century Cures and MEDTECH acts with the Commissioner, who was appointed in May.

More than 60 of the state’s life science innovators, including CEOs, academic leaders and researchers shared their views on progress and the future outlook for the industry in Colorado at this morning’s roundtable discussion, held at University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora.

Participants in the roundtable represented the state’s thriving life science sector, with more than 720 companies and institutions that support 159,000 bioscience-related jobs. CBSA members taking part in today’s discussion highlighted diversity and innovation in CBSA’s 350-strong member base.

The Anschutz Medical Campus and adjoining Fitzsimons Innovation Campus Bioscience Park Center are home to several of the state’s leading life science companies, research hospitals and institutions. The Anschutz Campus is recognized as one of the nation’s leading medical complexes.
