Sema4 Partners with PWNHealth to Enable Genetic Testing for Consumers Nationwide

Posted on: 03 Oct 17

Sema4, a health information company providing advanced genomic testing, and PWNHealth, whose physicians and genetic counselors provide medical oversight and counseling for testing, today announced a new partnership to enable genetic testing for consumers on a nationwide basis.

PWNHealth will provide physician oversight for Sema4’s newest product CarrierCheck™, the only carrier test that screens for 67 inherited conditions that consumers can purchase online. Sema4 CarrierCheck was developed in collaboration with Helix, a personal genomics company with an online marketplace for DNA-powered products.

For consumers initiating purchase of Sema4 CarrierCheck, PWNHealth’s clinical team will review each individual’s health history, a pre-purchase requirement, to determine if it is the appropriate genetic test for them. For all approved orders, PWNHealth’s network of genetic counselors will be available to help consumers understand their test results.

“Partnering with PWNHealth helps enable Sema4 to scale up for nationwide consumer orders for genetic testing. PWN’s expert clinical team supports our ambition to expand the pathways for consumers to engage in safe, convenient and accessible genetic testing and genetic counseling,” said Sema4 CEO Eric Schadt, PhD. “We plan to partner with PWNHealth on additional genetic testing products in the near future, helping consumers and their families to make informed healthcare choices.”

PWNHealth follows secure genetic and clinical best practices, and strict application protocols. “We’re delighted to partner with Sema4, and strongly support their pioneering efforts to provide consumers with a more comprehensive picture of health,” said PWNHealth CEO Sanjay Pingle. “Our mission is to bridge the gap between consumer demand for genetic testing and the need for medically appropriate oversight and advice. Our model integrates physicians and genetic counselors in a way that safeguards the consumer.”
