Thousands of GPs engage with’s online educational campaign for The Royal Marsden

More than 6,000 GPs have visited a 12-month online education campaign, which was launched for world-leading cancer centre The Royal Marsden by – the UK’s largest and most active network of medical professionals.

The GPs have made a total of 12,500 visits to the programme through which they could access a wealth of cancer information online and sign up for free, quarterly educational events at The Royal Marsden on the latest advances in cancer diagnosis, treatment and care.

There have been a total of 32,000 interactions with the campaign’s pages and more than 1,500 doctors have signed-up to receive The Royal Marsden’s GP publication – GP Oncology Update.

An eCME quiz on breast and prostate cancer, which formed part of the campaign, highlighted important learning gaps, including the fact that a number of GPs were not recognising some ‘red flag’ side effects of breast cancer and were misunderstanding lower urinary tract symptoms in prostate cancer.

Following on from the success of the programme, The Royal Marsden is launching a new 12-month campaign via through which it will share the highlights of its quarterly GP events via webcasts and continue to provide educational resources in the early diagnosis, treatment and long-term care of specific cancers. The campaign will also provide information about referring patients to The Royal Marsden, plus details about its private care services.

Isabella Douglas, Head of Marketing for The Royal Marsden, said: `We are delighted with the results of this campaign which has fulfilled a real need among GPs for credible, tailored educational resources that will support them in the early diagnosis and management of cancer patients.

‘We look forward to building on this success by working further with GPs to ensure our education programme is relevant to their needs, disseminating key information from our educational events and using knowledge gaps identified through the eCME quizzes to provide further educational resources via’

Simon Grime, Managing Director of Communications for, said: ‘It is widely accepted that GPs can play a critical role in helping to reduce cancer deaths through early diagnosis. However, in order to do so, they need ongoing information and support from cancer experts.
