RAMcare Selects the Reacts Platform to Power Its Virtual Medical Care Program for Marginalized Patients

Canada NewsWire

HAMILTON, ON and MONTREAL, March 19, 2018

HAMILTON, ON and MONTREAL, March 19, 2018 /CNW Telbec/ - Hamilton, Ontario's Rapid Access Medical Care (RAMcare), dedicated to eliminating barriers to high-level medical care, is proud to announce its selection of the Reacts platform to power its virtual medical care programs. Reacts, from Montreal based technology firm, Innovative Imaging Technologies (IIT), is an integrated and secure collaboration platform, now being deployed to support RAMcare's social initiative of delivering enhanced primary medical care to Canadians who typically struggle to receive care.

RAMcare's social telemedicine initiative is aimed at delivering improved care to individuals with mental illness, addictions or immobility, or who are otherwise unable to access a health care provider.

"To reach this marginalized health segment, we use virtual care technology that replicates an in-person encounter with a physician," said Dr. Dennis DiValentino, president and co-founder of RAMcare. "Our mobile medical units deliver comprehensive consultations in real time and are equipped with otoscopes, stethoscopes, blood pressure cuffs and more. As patient-focused physicians, the Reacts platform fits our needs perfectly," said Dr. DiValentino. "Other systems have been complicated to use and implement and not always reliable. Reacts' versatility, quality, and reliability coupled with its flexibility and mobility allows us to go to the patients and deliver appropriate virtual care directly in their environment."

Both RAMCare and IIT work closely with Joule, a subsidiary of the Canadian Medical Association (CMA). RAMcare was awarded Joule's first ever Social Innovation award and a $25,000 grant for its work delivering care to marginalized Canadians, and IIT/Reacts has teamed up with Joule to bring Reacts to CMA members all across Canada.

"We're proud to partner with RAMcare to support their virtual health care programs. Accessibility is a key facet of the Canadian health care delivery system, and remote or marginalized patients are especially prone to falling through the cracks. Using virtual medicine to facilitate and improve delivery of care to these patients is a step forward," said Dr. Yanick Beaulieu, president-founder of IIT and creator of Reacts.

RAMcare's mobile telemedicine initiative is also deployed in collaboration with the Ontario Telemedicine Network (OTN) and with the Local Health Integration Networks (LHINs) of Ontario.
