Get Ready for Flu Season With Oscillococcinum

Posted on: 05 Sep 18

NEWTOWN SQUARE, Pa., Sept. 05, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Last flu season was the worst in nearly a decade. Health experts are hoping that the intensity of last season will be a wake-up call to how serious flu can be, and the importance of properly preparing before flu season is in full swing. Board-certified internal medicine physician, Dr. Ken Redcross says keeping medicines like Oscillococcinum on hand, to use at the first sign of flu-like symptoms, can help shorten the severity and duration of the illness.

“When it comes to flu, patients tend to delay coming to see the doctor and try to handle it on their own,” said Redcross, author of the newly released, “Bond: The 4 Cornerstones of a Lasting and Caring Relationship with Your Doctor.” “I don’t advise that, but since most people choose not to come in for an appointment until the situation worsens, I always recommend having resources like Oscillococcinum on hand so you can conveniently start attacking symptoms right away.”

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, flu can arise abruptly and lasts anywhere from a few days to less than two weeks, so Redcross says it’s advisable to start addressing flu symptoms as soon as they appear. Even the healthiest person can be stricken by flu and can turn into a serious health issue, especially for young children, immunosuppressed individuals, and the elderly.

Published clinical studies show that Oscillococcinum can reduce both the duration and severity of flu-like symptoms, such as fatigue, body aches, chills, and fever. This medicine is non-drowsy and recommended for most populations including children age 2 and up. Oscillococcinum does not interfere with other medications.

“If just one person in your household comes down with the flu, it can spread to everyone in a matter of a few hours,” said Redcross. “In addition to taking Oscillococcinum and getting plenty of rest, also take immune-boosting supplements including vitamin C, D and omega-3. Most importantly, do not hesitate to seek medical attention if symptoms escalate.”

Influenza is a virus that can make the body vulnerable to other serious health complications, such as bacterial pneumonia. Deaths from flu are often caused by fatal complications from a weakened immune system and can also provoke other existing health problems. If symptoms worsen after the first three days of illness, especially if fever subsides and then returns, seek medical attention right away.
