We are recruiting for our Safety Pharmcology Study Direction team in Harrogate and are currently seeking to hire a Research Assistant to help support the team in the conduct/supervision of rodent and non-rodent pharmacology studies, to ensure that telemeterised animals are in good working order and to maintain detailed records on the colony, assist in the development and introduction of new pharmacological models and assist in the collation of data and preparation of draft reports.

This is a full time position, based in our site in Harrogate, North Yorkshire.

About the Job

Within this position, your duties will include:
- To support other Pharmacology staff in the conduct of rodent and non-rodent pharmacology studies.
- To help SDs with data input / checking.
- Be involved with study set-up.
- Maintain departmental background data records.
- Ensure that telemeterised animals are fit for purpose eg ECG screening animals prior to studies.
- Maintain detailed records on telemetry colony.
- Be responsible for the surgery and telemetry areas.
- To work closely with Team Leaders/Deputy Team Leaders to ensure adequate resources, materials & equipment are available for intended procedures.
- To ensure all procedures are conducted in accordance with client expectations of excellence and regulatory requirements.
- To assist in the validation and introduction of new techniques / models.
- As required, perform review of draft protocols and provide feedback on possible refinements.
- To maintain a high level of technical knowledge/competency, conducting personal research and continuing professional development activities.
- To assist and / or perform surgical procedures (rodents and non-rodents).
- Be actively involved in the identification of new and novel techniques, ensuring that pharmacology maintains a competitive position within the market place.
- When implementation of a new technique is required achieve competence to the standard required for training others.
- Investigate and make recommendations on equipment requirements for the performance of technical procedures in conjunction with departmental management.
- Pro-actively contribute to the development and delivery of scientific presentations as appropriate.
- Ensure all work conducted is compliant with legal and ethical constraints.
- Work to GLP.
- To perform other tasks which may be reasonably requested/delegated by supervisor.

About You

To be successful in this position, you will need to include an Institute of Animal Technology qualification and may include a relevant BTEC National/Higher National Diploma or relevant degree.

Additionally, you will need to:

- hold Home Office Licence Modules 1-4.
- demonstrate a high level of technical ability (from previous employment or by attainment of CCL grade 3 for a significant number of procedures at all levels of technical procedures).
- previously undertaken or has begun training to perform procedures on small and large animals (desirable)

Education/Qualifications

Educational standard should include an Institute of Animal Technology qualification and may include a relevant BTEC National/Higher National Diploma or relevant degree.
The Post Holder will hold Home Office Licence Modules 1-3.
It is required that the Post Holder will actively manage his or her own continued professional and career development.

Experience

The post holder is expected to demonstrate a high level of technical ability. It is desirable that the post holder has previously undertaken or has begun training to perform procedures on small and large animals.
