Job Background


Account Manager (Inside Sales)

The Account Manager’s responsibility is: Maintain a flow of projects from key and core accounts, with the objectives of: 1) building a strong long-term relationship between Chiltern and the sponsor, and 2) identifying new accounts for Chiltern. Accounts are assigned to the incumbent based on their previous experience and knowledge of the sponsor. The primary responsibility of the Inside Sales Account Manager is lead generation. This can include: (1) Territory review/analysis, (2) supporting business plan development, (3) prospecting future clients that align with Chiltern’s core therapeutic areas of focus or functional areas, (4) establish face to face meetings with targeted companies, (5) supporting meetings at conferences as well bid defenses. In this role, the main overall responsibilities of the position are the following:


  • Increase market awareness, sales, and profitability by increasing the number of new accounts, new Requests for Proposals (RFP’s), and New Business Accounts (NBA’s).
  • Partner with Business Development colleagues to enhance new account penetration
  • Contact new and existing accounts to schedule face-to-face appointments for Business Development colleagues
  • Generate opportunities for repeat business with key and core accounts
  • Maintain sales activity in business development tracking systems
  • Generate of reports to highlight increases in RFP’s, face-to-face meetings, and new account penetration.
  • Maintain regular communication with clients regarding: 1) potential studies 2) opportunities to submit proposals and budgets, 3) outcome of submitted proposals and budgets, and 4) feedback on non-awarded proposals
  • Perform other duties as required by the Department


Desired Skills and Experience

  • BSc or BA degree in a biomedical, related life science, or business-related discipline
  • Minimum 0 -- 2 + years of inside sales or related experience that requires incumbent to communicate by phone with potential clients.
  • 1 year of sales experience
  • Prior CRO Industry Experience Preferred
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of employee data and information during interactions with staff at all levels
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain relationships with outsourcing personnel in the pharmaceutical and / or biotechnology industries
  • Proficiency with MS Office programs
