About the job:

This role is within the Materials Management function which sits within Global Laboratory Systems (GLS), BioPharmaceutical CMC Solutions (CMC) and is focused around sample management:
 

  • To ensure all samples are entered, located and tracked by established deadlines and in compliance with SOPs and regulatory agency guidelines; assuring chain of custody for all materials throughout their lifecycle.
  • Perform a variety of  sample accession responsibilities in compliance with appropriate SOPs, GMP requirements and regulatory guidelines, in support of operational requirements.
  • This is a laboratory based role with direct responsibility for ensuring that effective and efficient sample coordination and associated processes are followed for incoming and outgoing samples.
  • Specific duties include but are not limited to:
     
    • Responsible for maintenance and operation of sample reception areas on a daily basis.
    • Receipt of materials from Covance logistics.
    • Reviews shipping inventory documents against samples received to ensure accuracy and communicate discrepancies to appropriate personnel.
    • Accepts samples the LIMS.
    • Communicates confirmation of receipt to clients, if requested.
    • Handles internal customer inquiries and requests relating to sample management.
    • Aliquots and sub-divides samples in preparation for testing, according to project requirements.
    • Solves problems independently, contacting internal or external clients for clarification as needed.
    • Distributes required information and documentation to appropriate end users.
    • Collation and delivery of samples for analysis within agreed timelines.
    • Disposal or return of samples to clients following project completion.
    • Ensures that their individual training records are up to date and accurately reflect their capabilities.
    • Maintains files of all relevant documentation for inspection by QA and other regulatory agencies.
    • Supports the issue of SOP's detailing specific procedures relevant to sample management within BioPharmCMC.
    • Knowledge and practice, including personal protective equipment, COSHH ratings, GMO assessments.
    • Trains new employees, working with and directing less experienced staff, and prioritising workloads and / or special projects on a daily basis.

Education / Qualifications

The post holder should ideally have relevant scientific qualifications and / or an appropriate amount of laboratory experience.

Experience

  • Experience in a sample handling  and / or logistics role
  • Working knowledge of sample receipt, transfer and shipping processes
  • Working knowledge of a functioning LIMS
  • Understanding and appreciation of aseptic technique
  • Computing skills, including word processing and use of spreadsheets (e.g. Word, Excel).
  • An understanding of Health and Safety policies, Company Policies and Procedures and GMP / GLP / GCP.
  • The post holder should be able to communicate effectively at all levels with other Covance employees, as well as suppliers, etc.
