Main responsibilities

As a Senior Clinical Research Nurse you will participate in the creation and maintenance of a high quality clinical research environment and to initiate and manage nursing activities related to clinical trials from initiation to termination according to ICH/GCP guidelines. You will also be responsible for ensuring the commercial success of the centre by recruiting and maintaining optimum patient numbers and to support the clinical research nurse manager with the training and development of the clinical team on site. 80% of your time will be utilised clinically for this role.

Your key accountabilities will be:


  • Performing all visits, observations and interventions with the participants in accordance with procedures and schedule of the study protocol, company SOP’s and policies
  • Promoting studies; carrying out pre-screenings efficiently and effectively and reviewing success rates to ensure recruitment targets are achieved
  • Ensuring that all data queries are acted upon in a timely and efficient manner
  • Promoting and nurturing a welcoming, professional and pleasant environment for staff and participants
  • Supporting and promoting research centre strategies within the local community when required
  • Facilitating and participating in multidisciplinary meetings, project strategy, and core study meetings
  • Initiating emergency action when required e.g. cardiac arrest, anaphylaxis management, fire, or critical incidents
  • Reviewing and authoring relevant clinical SOP/guidelines when required
  • Supervising and  managing junior clinical staff under the direction of the clinical research nurse manager
  • Deputising for the clinical research nurse manager when required
Ideal candidate

As a successful Senior Clinical Research Nurse, you will likely have:

  • Registration with no limitations to practice within the Nursing and Midwifery Council (Adult)
  • A post graduate diploma in a health/biological sciences related area or equivalent
  • The ability to manage multiple and complex research studies without supervision
  • Knowledge of research governance issues
  • Advanced interpersonal and communication skills
  • Advanced clinical skills
  • Personnel and professional development  of junior staff
