The Data Protection officer will, in accordance with the EU General Data Protection Regulation assess Data Protection processes and requirements, ensure and monitor compliance with the GDPR, other current European and national legislation and policies.
Reporting directly to the Managing Director, the candidate will be the primary point of contact for the company and group companies in Ireland and its employees, clients, regulators, and the public for issues relating to data protection. 
The position will have interactions with members of various departments throughout the Group including Legal, Compliance and HR. 
Lead company GDPR compliance as per the recommendations of the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner and legislation, developing and leading an implementation plan to deliver compliance across the company.

Role & Responsibilities:

  • Inform and advise the management teams of the companies and all employees who process personal data of their obligations pursuant to the GDPR and other laws and regulations as it relates to personal data.
  • Monitoring compliance with the GDPR with the policies in relation to the protection of personal data including assignment of responsibilities, awareness raising and training of staff involved in processing operations and the related audits
  • Providing advice where requested as regards the data protection impact assessment and monitor performance.
  • Lead and advise in the periodic revision of data protection materials to reflect changes in laws, regulatory or company policy and standards.
  • Ensure timely adoption and execution of all GDPR and data privacy compliance requirements.
  • Be an independent advocate for data protection within the company by enabling to build a culture of data privacy within the organisation.
  • Assist and advise on decisions that pose data protection implications, ensuring decisions regarding service and functional processes and systems are designed cognisant of data protection legislation.
  • Develop systems and capabilities to monitor adherence to the policies.
  • Consult with and build strong relationships with relevant data protection authorities.
  • Work across the organisation to implement monitoring of compliance with the Regulations and best practice data protection policies.
  • Manage the data incident response and data breach notification process.

Skills & Experience Requirements:

  • Experienced Data Protection professional with proven experience in a Data Protection or similar compliance based role.
  • Relevant third level qualification essential, qualification in Data Protection e.g. CIPP/CISM/CIPT desirable.
  • A high degree of experience in translating legal and regulatory requirements into practical, operational solutions.
  • Ability to work with and across multi-disciplinary teams whilst maintaining independence.
  • Experience in managing data incidents and breaches.
  • Excellent written and oral communication.
  • High level of organisational skills and ability to critically analyse and make decisions.
  • Full Driving Licence as travel within sites in Ireland is necessary.
