Job Summary:

This agency currently has an exciting opportunity for a Principal Medical Writer to work in their London office. You will hold responsibility for complex written documents, editorial account management, client relations, communications strategy, and management of designated editorial team members.

Requirements:

Our client is a Healthcare Communications Agency with offices in Europe and North America. They offer a wide variety of communications services for pharmaceutical, biotech, medical device and animal health companies.

This agency currently has an exciting opportunity for a Principal Medical Writer to work in their London office. You will hold responsibility for complex written documents, editorial account management, client relations, communications strategy, and management of designated editorial team members. You will work closely with the Associate Directors/Directors to contribute to strategic business development and client relationship management and act as an expert in offering counsel to clients on complex editorial and scientific issues.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for large-scale, strategic and/or complex client plans and proposals.
  • Oversee the development of client service objectives and support the creation of a plan to fulfil these objectives with the wider account team.
  • Ensure that clients’ needs and expectations are understood and managed and that briefs are challenged appropriately.
  • Lead formal client meetings to establish and maintain relationship of trust with the client and oversee the management and resolution of client issues, ensuring the relevant Director/Partner is updated on key changes and issues on accounts.
  • Contribute to post-project/account reviews with a Director and the team to assess the client relationships and management/development.
  • Line manage members of the internal team and manage freelancers within the designated editorial team.
  • Oversee workload among designated editorial team members and delegate appropriately ensuring time and budget guidelines are adhered to.
  • Exemplify and encourage an environment of teamwork and cooperation and provide guidance to junior staff through coaching and mentoring.
  • Assist in the development of key messages/scientific communications, as needed, and ensure appropriate medical/marketing strategy is addressed in editorial assignments.
  • Review written scientific documents for writing style, strategy, content accuracy and fact/data checking, and provide constructive feedback, in addition to ensuring scientific rigour of documents.
  • Demonstrate a sound knowledge and understanding of agency/stream management and of managing profitability for relevant accounts.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • Higher University degree, or equivalent (ie MSc, MBA or PhD) in a relevant subject.
  • Very good experience gained within a medical communications agency.
  • Excellent writing, presentation and strategic/creative skills.
  • Knowledge/expertise in one or more therapy area.
  • Ability to travel abroad for business for meetings and/or events as required.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritise to achieve deadlines.
  • Sound operational and financial management skills, including the ability to set and oversee editorial budgets.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Advanced strategic writing skills, grounded in a strong scientific rationale with a robust attention to detail and focus on quality control.
  • Excellent presentation and facilitation skills, including ability to chair/facilitate internal and external meetings.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop communication plans and/or programmes.
  • Extensive and in-depth knowledge of multiple therapy areas and ability to quickly and efficiently delve into new/different therapeutic categories to help junior colleagues.
