He/she provides strategic direction to the project management team and ensures staff development, training, performance feedback and HR policies are properly implemented.

The Senior Director Project Management (SDPM) mentors and leads project teams and facilitates an efficient and effective project management group by managing company processes and systems within the framework of the company’s mission statement, policy and philosophy. He/she provides strategic direction to the project management team and ensures staff development, training, performance feedback and HR policies are properly implemented. Additionally, SDPMs may be assigned to manage large-global projects and or provide portfolio level management for a series of projects from a specific client

The SDPM is furthermore responsible for the successful management of the projects being conducted by the company.  In addition, he/she serves as the primary liaison between the client and the company and is responsible for ensuring successful implementation, management, and completion of assigned clinical studies. This position can be based in Morrisville, NC or Carlsbad, CA offices, or Anywhere, US. 

 

Responsibilities

  • Monitors and participates in overall direction, strategy and performance standards for Project Managers/Project Directors/project teams:
    • Ensures services provided to clients are compliant with company policies, procedures, SOPs, ICH-GCPs, client contractual expectations and country specific regulatory requirements.
    • Coordinates with senior management to assure projects are meeting corporate and client objectives.
  • Mentors and develops company project teams to expand employee performance levels and to assure retention of high performing employees.
  • Ensures appropriate resources are available to meet corporate /client/project objectives while achieving optimal utilization of the staff.
  • Primary interface with Client representatives as well as staff members in the Clinical, Project Management, Data Management, and Biostatistics departments to ensure the timely initiation and completion of clinical trials. 
  • Assigned to manage the full range of projects; from the small limited in scope projects (e.g., data management, etc.) to the full service, large scale, and complex programs.
  • Participates with senior management in marketing and business development activities including professional meetings, trade shows, seminars and client capabilities meetings.
  • Participates in the analysis and development of Project Management Department budgets.
  • Provides advice and counsel to the EDPM on appropriate project/processes to streamline project coordination and decision-making.
  • Supervisory and management responsibility for Project Managers and administrative personnel including employment, motivation, training, counseling, profession development, discipline and performance evaluation.
  • Provides project management mentorship and training to the Project Management group.
  • Contributes and participates in the analysis of departmental resource requirements.
  • Manages cross-functional company project resourcing/priority meetings.
  • Represents Project Management on company-wide project teams.
  • Prepares proposals, budgets and contracts
  • Manages the project trial master files
  • Identifies potential bottlenecks and/or delays; develops and executes contingency plans in order to keep the project on schedule.  
  • Interacts with applicable pharmaceutical, biotechnology clients and company vendors to ensure that all contractual obligations are met.
  • Ensures adequate resource requirements.
  • Coordinates initial client meeting identifying project objectives.
  • Develops Project Management plan to include timeline and milestones.
  • Coordinates client Project Team Meetings, including development of meeting agendas and minutes.
  • Coordinates study specific training and other requirements for internal and external staff, as appropriate.
  • Conducts daily, on-going communication via telephone and email, responding to inquiries and client requests.  Interacts with clients and vendors to ensure that all contractual obligations are met.
  • Interacts with company departments relating to project finances and information technology through the use and development of specific tracking and invoicing procedures.
  • Manages budget throughout the duration of the project and develops out of scope documentation and costs.
  • Produces periodic reports. 
  • Identifies and assists in departmental training requirements including internal and external operations and project manager mentor programs.
  • Contributes to the development and revision of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and departmental policies.
  • Management responsibilities require one to hire and assimilate employees; to provide on-going feedback and development; to document and deliver annual performance reviews; to coach, counsel and make determination of involuntary separation of employees as appropriate.

Qualifications

Academic & Professional Qualifications:

  • Bachelor / Master degree in a related field of study and a minimum of 12 years applicable industry experience with at least 10 years managing projects or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A minimum of 7 years leadership experience is required.

Skills & Experience:

  • Demonstrated understanding of project management techniques.
  • Strong verbal, written and presentation skills
  • Superior time management, planning, and organizational skills
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks effectively in a stressful environment
  • Working knowledge of GCPs, ICH guidelines, FDA and other applicable country regulations.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, Outlook.
  • Effective verbal and writing skills; English + local language, if relevant.
