We are seeking someone to join the client contract division of our Legal Contracts team at a Senior Counsel level. This position will be based in the UK (or Wilmington, North Carolina) in either an office or home-based environment on a full-time permanent basis.

The position will be responsible for negotiating commercial contracts between PPD and its clients for the provision of PPD’s services. This will involve a broad spectrum of contracts. The role is also responsible for the line management of 3-4 more junior team members and mentoring and escalations management on a broader scale on an ad-hoc basis within the team.

Key responsibilities:

  • Provide legal advice and represent PPD in complex legal matters.
  • Prepares, negotiates and finalises PPD agreements and other contractual documents.
  • Assesses legal risk and provides recommendations and alternative mitigating resolutions to departmental management and senior management.  In addition, upon request, makes recommendations to Executive Management with regard to risks, strategies and recommendations.
  • Manages more junior members of the team and assists in handling escalations and complex legal negotiations.
  • Assists with customer disputes
  • Provides training to other functional groups within PPD on contract requirements and participates in committees as needed

Qualifications

Education and Experience:
  • Qualified lawyer
  • Minimum of nine (9) years’ prior contracts related experience in a legal context or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Accomplished communication and interpersonal skills
  • Effective organizational skills and strong attention to detail with proven ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently and effectively
  • Must be flexible and able to reprioritise workload to meet changing project needs
  • Proficient MS Excel and MS Word skills
  • Excellent English and grammar skills
  • Accomplished analytical and decision based thinking with a proven track record of excellent risk assessment skills
  • Mastery drafting and negotiations skills with proven track record
  • Must be able to work independently and as a team player
  • Must be able to strategically develop processes designed to increase efficiencies whilst minimising risk
  • Must be able to manage more junior team members with a proven track record of doing so previously
