We are seeking a Group Medical Director with clinical and drug development experience within our Oncology Global Product Development organization. This is a unique opportunity to work on novel studies focused on understanding cancer immune biology, anti-tumor activity of an engineered anti-PD-L1 antibody, combination immune modulatory approaches with targeted therapy or immune doublet therapy, and a pipeline of new immunomodulatory molecules and approaches.

This individual will be responsible for strategic global clinical oversight of the Anti-PD-L1 combination development program. The position will involve clinical development of PD-L1 in a number of solid tumor disease areas, primarily focused on Phase I and Phase II combination development. In addition to managing the clinical development team, the Group Medical Director will be responsible for oversight of the design, implementation, monitoring, analysis, and reporting of studies, as well as any clinical combination partnerships with external entities.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Broadly represent the interests of Oncology Product Development within Roche and GNE, as a member of the Cancer Immunotherapy Franchise Leadership Team, as well as through interactions with Research, Biomarkers, Early Development, Medical Affairs, Commercial, Regulatory and Business Development senior leaders
  • Accountable for the strategic clinical development of PD-L1 based combinations in Phase I/II– including the clinical development plan, design, biomarkers, implementation of studies and leadership of all health authority interactions.
  • Strategic support for cancer immunotherapy disease area strategies across all molecules and franchises
  • Closely interface with early development groups to define opportunities to explore new areas of scientific discovery
  • Strategic support for Late Stage partnering for all opportunities in PD-L1
  • Evaluate approved and late stage PDO molecules for new indication opportunities
  • Accountable for building global working capability and establishing clear success metrics
  • Coach, manage and support employees to achieve business goals. Actively manage talent and career development of a large global team.
  • Maintain and develop a positive organizational culture, by promoting the values of the focus on patients, science, and our people

Candidates should have an M.D. or M.D./Ph.D. with board certification/eligibility in Oncology or Hematology/Oncology; expertise in clinical drug development is required. 5+ years pharmaceutical/biotech industry drug development experience with 3 + years experience directly managing M.D. peers required.

Additional requirements and attributes:

  • Experience leading the design, conduct, analysis, and reporting of clinical studies, including successful interactions with health authorities
  • Significant successful interactions with key opinion leaders/investigators
  • Proven ability to manage, motivate and inspire a diverse group of medical directors.
  • Proven ability to effectively work in a cross-functional/matrix environment and successfully leverage external partnerships
  • Proven ability to positively and strategically influence employees at all levels and an accomplished record of leading cross-functional teams in a highly matrixed organization
  • Strong interpersonal, influencing, presentation, and communications skills (written and verbal) to effectively address all levels within an organization
  • Experience in Cancer Immunotherapy and Cancer Immune Biology
