The Senior Research Applications Developer is responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining software applications based on user, process and functional requirements in the research and drug discovery area, with a clear understanding of the drug discovery processes and pharmaceutical regulations.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Assessment of user needs through close cooperation with business functions to provide support and proactive service, including analysis of opportunities in accordance with the IT strategy and architecture
  • Provision of algorithms, data models, functions and/or objects
  • Ongoing troubleshooting, user support, and maintenance of the Systems to ensure customer satisfaction
  • Provision or selection of applicable methods, technologies, standards, guidelines and tools for the software development and maintenance
  • Provision of good and well structure documentation and methodology to ensure compliance with IT policies, standards, and good development practices
  • Strong understanding of research requirements and technology to support business objectives.
  • Configuration or development of new system functionalities based on well-defined user requirements
  • Combination of internal and external data/information sources to provide sound models to facilitate research decisions
  • Negotiation with vendors / service providers for optimal costs and service delivery
  • Able to manage application development projects

Qualifications and Experience:

  • University degree in chemistry or biology, and computer science or management information systems, or related field. Master’s degree is an advantage.
  • 8 years of professional experience, with preferably 4 years in the pharmaceutical industry
  • At least 5 years of hands-on experience in software development in chemistry or biology information systems
  • Agile software development
  • Strong knowledge of multi-tiers applications, object-oriented programming, and programming language, especially full-stack Java technologies, C++, Scala
  • Strong knowledge of databases
  • Very good experience with Application servers such as JBoss, Apache-Tomcat
  • Strong knowledge about web technologies, Ajax, Json, HMTL5, CSS, Javascript
  • Very good experience with standards as XML, SOAP, REST
  • Strong  communication  skills,  able  to  understand  biology  or  chemistry  researchers  and  present solutions to them, and ability to quickly translate business needs into technical specifications
  • Good analytical skills and able to think of algorithms
  • Good understanding of data integration, systems interfaces
  • Ability to manage resources in the design and implementation of systems and data interfaces
  • Ability to develop and deliver high quality support for operational or analytical applications
  • Independent,   and   hands-on   working   style,   team   player,   highly   self-motivated,   autonomous, proactive and change oriented
  • Fluent in English (written and spoken), French and/or German is a plus
  • Relevant working/residency permit or Swiss/EU-Citizenship required
