TalentSource Life Sciences is currently searching for an experienced Medical Manager to work with one of our partner pharmaceutical companies in the Hertfordshire area.

This is a temporary position with TalentSource for 6 months with the possibility of being extended, on a full time basis. This is an office based role, however 1 day working from home will be considered.

The successful candidate will be working on studies dedicated to one client.

Position Purpose:

The Medical Manager will contribute to the success of the UK affiliate by supporting the Country Medical Leader and Local Medical Team to develop and successfully implement the Medical/Non-Promotional Plan with high standards of ethics, compliance and safety.

In addition, the Medical Manager is expected to have a strategic and Franchise perspective, provide mentorship and be able to effectively deputies for the Country Medical Leader as required which could include presenting/actively contributing at the Integrated Franchise Team, International Medical Team and leading a Local Medical Team as needed.

Main Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Medical Affairs support for the Local Medical Team and other non-promotional activities for the Franchise, including being able to deputies for the Country Medical Lead as required.
  • Development and Project Leadership of the Medical/Non-Promotional Plan. Ensure alignment of the UK Medical/Non-Promotional Plan with Integrated Franchise Team strategy / Global plans and proactive management of medical budget.
  • Therapeutic area expert advice-seeking plan and interactions, leading advisory boards. Develop and maintain expert knowledge in therapy area(s) associated with the Franchise. Contribute expert scientific advice into planning and development of disease awareness and/or promotional campaigns. Provide strategic input into Integrated Development and Commercialization Plan if needed. Support training of internal teams.
  • Clinical trial design and oversight as per ICH-GCP and local SOPs/regulations in collaboration with Country Clinical Operations.
  • Data generation. Identify local data gaps, local study protocol design, study planning, input to site selection and feasibility assessment. Lead the Phase IIIb/IV program.
  • Provide strategic insights and input for Drug Safety, Regulatory, Market Access and Communications activities as required.
  • Provide medical review (and Certification in qualified) for materials and communications.
  • Develop and implement publication plan in collaboration with Medical Writing. Develop materials and support trainings for MSLs.
  • Development of patient materials and risk management plan materials.
  • Provide medical input for Health Technology Assessment documents and lead presentation at external panels if required.
  • Support regulatory activities/documents for new product/indication applications and label updates.
  • Support Market Access teams, providing relevant efficacy and safety data on dedicated products and leading medical discussions/presentations for tendering if needed.

Education / Qualifications:

  • GMC-registered physician, GPhC-registered pharmacist or further/higher level science-based degree (e.g. MSc, PhD preferred).
  • If physician or pharmacist, ABPI Medical Final Signatory qualification preferred, otherwise expected to initiate Medical Final Signatory training course within first year.

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Prior work within Medical Affairs in the pharmaceutical industry essential; prior work with Gynaecology and Oncology therapeutic areas is required.
  • Development and implementation of clinical trials, including data analysis and interpretation preferred.
  • Writing clinical publications and delivery of scientific presentations.
  • Working in a cross-functional / matrix team setting in collaboration with other functional partners.
  • Development and implementation of TAE advice-seeking plan and advisory boards.
  • Must have a strong understanding of ICH-GCP and local regulations.
  • Knowledge of drug discovery and commercialization processes.
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Must have strong leadership skills. Takes a genuine interest in people, listens carefully, tells the truth and empowers/trusts people to make decisions. Discovers and develops the potential in people, strives for excellence and extraordinary results.
  • Ability to make decisions, manage change, provide technical and business expertise whilst inspiring and influencing other team members.
