Position Overview

The Infrastructure Services Engineer is responsible for effective design, installation, configuration, operation, maintenance and continual improvement of virtualization, storage, on premise and cloud computing environments.   

Specific tasks would include:

  • Design, install, configure, operate, maintain and continually improve the global Server Virtualization environment.
  • Design, install, configure, operate, maintain and continually improve Microsoft Windows Server Operating Systems and associated features required to support virtualization services environment.
  • Design, install, configure, operate, maintain and continually improve enterprise storage arrays, arrays, associated components, firmware, drivers and management software.
  • Design, install, configure, operate, maintain and continually improve hypervisor integrated security solutions.
  • Design, install, configure, operate, maintain and continually improve Server and Blade System environment including, but not limited to HP ProLiant DL and BL Servers, C7000 chassis, associated components, firmware and drivers.
  • Work with IT Operations team members to ensure any third party backup solutions, schedules and methods complement and do not conflict with any technology specific backup and maintenance plans.
  • Design, install, configure, operate, maintain and improve monitoring, reporting and alerting solutions specific to all systems owned by Infrastructure Services functional group.
  • Design, install, configure, operate, maintain and improve Cloud Services environments, including IaaS, PaaS and Hybrid Cloud platforms.
  • Establish, maintain and continually improve operational processes and procedures in compliance with governing policies and or Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Ensures systems and services documentation are established, maintained and continually improved within the SynteractHCR Service Knowledge Management System.
  • Works with team members to ensure maintenance schedules and associated SLA’s are being observed for all systems owned by the Virtualization Services functional team.
  • Responds to and resolves service ticket escalations from Global Service Desk and Global Systems within agreed service levels (SLAs/SLOs).
  • Provides functional team expertise in relation to Change Evaluation and Change Management activities.
  • Provides functional team expertise for root cause analysis in relation to Problem Management activities.
  • Provides mentorship, guidance and training to junior Administrators
  • Works with team leads and Management in roadmap planning exercises as they relate to Virtualization Services offerings.
  • Works with team members and Management in defining measurements and to provide appropriate metrics for capacity planning.
  • Provides software tracking and usage reporting to Management.
  • Identifies, reports on and recommends corrective action on deviations from agreed service level agreements (SLA/SLO).
  • Provides cross functional expertise to other Global Systems functional teams as required.
  • May require work outside normal business hours to resolve incidents, problems, complete projects and/or maintenance.
  • Other duties as assigned by Management.
  Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university in a related field; or
  • 12+ years related experience; or
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Certifications preferred but not required:VMware, AWS, Microsoft Azure, ITIL Foundations or higher as well as other industry standard certifications that may be relevant to position.
  • Advanced knowledge of Cloud Architectures
  • Advanced knowledge of best practices in the aforementioned technologies.
  • Advanced knowledge of networking concepts as they relate to Windows Services
  • Advanced knowledge in backup, recovery and disaster recovery concepts.
  • Advanced knowledge of ITIL concepts and or other industry standard best practice frameworks and associated processes including, but not limited to Request fulfillment, Incident, Problem, Change and Event Management.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft licensing concepts
  • Proficiency working within Microsoft Azure or Amazon Web Services
  • Expert level proficiency working within Windows Server Operating Systems environments.
  • Expert level proficiency working with VMware vSphere features such as Clustering, DRS, HA, FT, vMotion, Storage vMotion, vCenter, VUM, etc.
  • Expert level proficiency working with Powershell, PowerCLI,
  • Extensive experience working with and designing server hardware solutions to support highly available and scalable VMware vSphere ESX environments.
  • Extensive experience working with and designing Enterprise monitoring solutions with products such Dell Fog Light for VMware, Solarwinds APM and System Center Operations Manager.
  • Expert level proficiency in detecting and resolving performance issues related to CPU, I/O, disk space and other resource related contention issues.
  • Extensive experience in backup and recovery as well as DR concepts as it relates to functional group core skills.
  • Extensive experience working with enterprise storage arrays
  • Expert level proficiency in the design of enterprise storage arrays for maximum performance and scalability.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, Outlook and Visio.
  • Effective verbal and writing skills; English + local language, if relevant.
